Chapter 3 - You're Gonna Be An Aunt!
“Are you two coming in?” I wonder as Drew puts his car in park in my driveway.
Drew shakes his head, “Not me. I’ve gotta an early shift at work.”
“And my mom needs to me to babysit Taylor.” Tanner retorts, looking down at his phone.
“Alright, I’ll see you guys tonight at the party.” I tell them, getting out of Drew’s car.
I run up to the front door and pull my keys out of my back pocket. I unlock the door and go in, closing the door behind me, waving at Drew and Tanner as he drives away, honking in farewell. I nearly gag when I see Arianna and Jared on the couch, sucking face. Gah, it’s so gross. I mean, if they’re gonna be doing all of that, they should do it up in Arianna’s room.
I walk by them, going upstairs to my room, ready to go back to sleep after getting up so early. I go in my room and then close the door behind me. Kicking my shoes off, I collapse onto my bed, quickly falling asleep.
-------
I wake up a few hours later, to the sound of shouting. Oh God, Arianna and Jared must be arguing. Again. I groan, and wipe my hand across my eyes. Sitting up in my bed, I grab my phone and see that it’s now 11:32. Still earlier than I usually wake up on Saturday’s. Getting out of my bed and stretch lazily. I go downstairs, eavesdropping on Arianna and Jared’s argument. They argue about some of the dumbest stuff. Take a few days ago for example, they were here and they were arguing about what to do for their anniversary. And it wasn’t one of those cutesy couple arguments; it was a full blown argument. Jared wanted to go to some baseball game, and Arianna wanted to go see some show at the local theatre. I walk into the living room and they both stop, and look at me. I fold my arms across my chest.
“I was sleeping, very peaceful, I might add.”
"Jared apologizes for being such an idiot and waking you up Sydney.” Arianna says, even though Jared said nothing.
“Don’t call me an idiot, Arianna. I’m not an idiot, you’re the idiot here!”
“What are you two arguing about this time?” I wonder, irritably.
“Well, we recently learned something.” Arianna tells me.
“Oh yeah?” I retort, sitting on the arm of the couch. “What’d you learn?”
"You’re gonna be an aunt!” She shrieks.
I furrow my brow in confusion, my eyes going down to my sister’s belly. It’s still as flat and as firm as ever. “You’re pregnant?”
She nods excitedly, “Yes!”
“Oh wow, that’s uh, that’s great.”
“You don’t sound happy.” Jared notes.
I just know that Jared and her will probably break up like twelve times before the baby is even born. That poor unborn baby. I mean, I love Arianna, and I can deal with Jared, but they aren’t fit to be parents. She’s in college, and Jared, well he’s so confused, he doesn’t even know what he wants out of life. Like he switches majors every two weeks. Last week he changed from a phycology major to journalism major. The week after next he’ll probably change again to like film or something. Honestly, I’d be a better mom then the two of them would be. I’m not knocking them or anything, but they mentally couldn’t handle a baby.
"No, I am happy. Just surprised. So why were you two arguing?”
“Because Jared wants to name him Jared Jr. if he’s a boy, but I wanna name him Jace.”
