Rescue Mission

                                    

                                          
The three of them barrel into Colonel Phillips' office. 
                          
"Well, if it isn't 'the star spangled man with the plan.' What is your plan exactly?" he says
                          
"Azzano. I want to see the casualty list."
                          
"You don't get to give me orders son." he replies
                          
"We don't need the whole list, just one name. Sergeant James Barnes from the 107th" Anne says.
                          
"You and I are going to have a conversation later that you won't enjoy-" Phillips says to Peggy.
                          
"Just tell me if he's alive, sir. B-A-R-" Steve starts.
                          
"I know how to spell." Phillips replies "I've signed more condolence letters today than I'd care to count. But the name does sound familiar. I'm sorry."
                          
Anne's heart skips a beat and tears build up in her eyes. Peggy hugs her. Steve goes pale. He stares at a map of Austria on the wall. 
                          
"What about the others?" He says "Are you planning a rescue mission?"
                          
"Yeah it's called winning the war" 
                          
"But if you know where they are-" 
                          
"They're thirty miles behind the lines. Through some of the most heavily fortified territory in Europe. We'd lose more men than we'd save. I don't expect you to understand that, because you are a chorus girl." Phillips snaps. 
                          
"I think I understand pretty well." Steve snaps back.
                          
"Then understand it somewhere else. If I read the posters right, you've got some place to be in a half- hour. "
                          
"Yes, sir. I do."
                          
"No, we do." Anne says.
                          
The pair look at each other and storm off. 



                          
"You're not going Anne, it's too dangerous." Steve says as he packs a bag.
                          
"Oh yes I am going, It's Bucky. He's the love of my life, Steve. I'd risk my life for him any day." She says. "You'd do it for Peggy."
                          
Peggy, who was just outside the tent, stopped to listen.
                          
"What? How did you know-" Steve asks
                          
"We've been best friends since I was nine, I'm pretty sure I can read the signs."
                          
Peggy then decides to walk in.
                          
"What do you plan to do, walk to Austria?" Peggy says
                          
"If that's what it takes." Steve and Anne say.
                          
"You heard Phillips, your friend is most likely dead."
                          
"You don't know that" Anne snaps. 
                          
"Even so, he's devising a strategy"
                          
"By the time he's done that it could be too late" Steve says, raising his voice. 
                          
Anne and Steve walk out of the tent. 
                          
"Anne! Steve!" Peggy calls after them.
                          
Steve throws his shield and bag into a truck. Peggy meets him there. 
                          
"You told me you thought I was more than this, did you mean it?" He asks Peggy.
                          
"Every word." She replies.
                          
"Then you gotta let us go." Anne says back and Steve and Anne get into the truck. 
                          
"I can do more than that." Peggy says. 
                          
A plane soars through the air with big letters spelling out "Stark Industries" on the side. 
                          
"The Hydra camp is in Krausberg, tucked between two mountain ranges. It's a factory of some kind." Peggy says.
