Ezra was sound asleep in his bed, dreaming of nothing but black. He had been this way for six hours now.
Kanan knew that he had to wake up Ezra, but he didn't know how. He had tried shaking him, but the kid didn't do much as stir. Then he had an idea.
Kanan went into Ezra's cabin. Before he tested his theory he called him once again. "Ezra, wake up." As expected, he stayed asleep. Kanan sighed.
He climbed the ladder and sat down beside Ezra, his feet dangling off the side. "You sure you don't want to wake up?" he asked. "It's your last chance."
Nothing. Kanan sighed again, rolling his eyes.
He straddled Ezra's waist and was at the ready, his fingered mere millimeters from Ezra's torso, which happened to be quite ticklish. Before he could start, Ezra's eyes opened and he woke up.
He gasped when he saw Kanan and he tried to get away, but found her couldn't. He started to hyperventilate.
"Ezra! It's okay, it's just me!" Kanan said, trying to calm him. He sent wave after wave of calmness through the Force, but it wasn't working.
Tears were running down Ezra's face. Kanan quickly jumped to the floor and continued trying his hardest to help Ezra, but he couldn't.
Ezra was shaking worse than ever, his breath and heart rate both out of control. He gasped for breath. He felt dizzy and nauseous. He was cold, but sweating at the same time. If Kanan tried to touch him, he'd cry out and try to get away.
Kanan didn't know how to stop it. He picked Ezra up and carried him, quickly, to the medbay. He had a sudden idea.
Kanan quickly ran into the common room and grabbed an ice cube from the freezer, then went back to where Ezra was. "Put this in your mouth," he said. Ezra took it with a shaking hand. "Put it in your mouth," Kanan repeated. "But don't eat it. Just leave it there."
Ezra obeyed, and his panic attack calmed. Instead of focusing on the fear, his brain focused on the cold sensation in his mouth.
"H-how did you know?" he asked shakily.
"Well I figured that at first you'd think, 'What the hell?' then you'd focus on the cold instead of your panic," Kanan replied simply.
"So what's the moral of this one-shot?" the creature in the vents asked.
"If you're panicking, put an ice cube in your mouth," the other thing replie.
