Raindrops began to fall on the tent. Thunder rolled ominously. It was as though nature itself knew of the storm brewing between the trio. Since retrieving the locket from Umbridge, they had taken turns wearing it to keep it safe. While it always affected the wearer, it affected Ron the worst. Harry and Hermione came to dread his days in the rotation, always expecting the outburst that was sure to ensue.
Harry and Hermione were excitedly talking, having just realized the Sword of Gryffindor could be used to destroy the horcruxes.
Suddenly the lights went out. Ron walked over to the two of them and clicked his deluminator once again, releasing the lights.
"Yeah, I'm still here, just in case you forgot." Ron said, venom dripping through his words.
"Of course you are. Is something wrong?" Harry said, confused, but dreading another outburst.
"Forgive me if I don't jump up and down in joy at the fact that we have to find another bloody thing."
"But Ron," Hermione injected " this could be the key to destroying them. We finally have a clue of how to get rid of them forever."
"Yeah that's right, now all we have to do is find the bloody sword, and everything is fixed. Oh, wait, nope we still have to find the other horcruxes! We don't even know what they are!"
"So what's the real problem then Ron? C'mon, spit it out." Harry said defiantly.
"Fine, I'll spit it out. We thought we knew what you were doing!"
"What's not living up to your expectations? Did you think we would be living in 5 star hotels? Finding a horcrux every week? Did you think this war would be over by Christmas?"
"I thought you had a plan!"
Harry's heart pounded as his anger rose. He fought to maintain composure. "I've been open with you from the beginning. I didn't even want you two to come, I was going to do this by myself."
"Well, maybe I should have listened. Maybe my family wouldn't be in danger right now if I had, if we had never met! But you wouldn't understand, your family's are out of harms way."
"MY FAMILY IS DEAD, HER FAMILY DOESN'T EVEN REMEMBER HER."
"MINE IS HEADED THAT WAY!"
"THEN LEAVE!"
Harry and Ron both saw red, something snapping between them. Ron took out his wand and shot a spell at Harry, but it was deflected by a shield spell Hermione cast. She pulled Harry back, to keep him away from Ron.
"Let me guess, you'll stay with him won't you?" Ron spit at Hermione.
"Ron, we made a promise."
"It was always him. Even when I loved you first, you only had eyes for him. Well, I hope you two are happy. If you end up dead, remember who led you out here, and who offered you a way out."
Harry lunged at Ron again as he left, only to be stopped once again by Hermione. Ron threw the locket at them as he stormed out.
Lighting struck near by as Ron disappeared.
Hermione had tears steaming down her cheeks as she stared at the door to the tent. Harry was sat down, head in his hands. Just moments ago, he had felt the happiest he had felt in weeks. Now all of that was gone, replaced with anger, hopelessness, and fear. Hermione came to him and laid her head on his shoulder.
"He's right," Harry's voice cracked as he spoke, "You should go. I can't lose you, get away while you can, and maybe you'll stay alive."
"Where would I go? I'm a muggle born, we saw what they are doing to us. I'm your girlfriend, that alone makes me Undesirable #2. Nowhere is safe for me right now. And I won't leave you alone. Harry, look at me, no look AT me. I love you. I'll never leave you."
Harry took her face in his hands and kissed her. It was a soft and gentle kiss, but it said everything. She laid her head on his shoulder and cried with him.——————————
