The sun shined brightly, casting a golden glow over the warm sand. Crystal blue waves lapped the sand, leaving a fluffy white foam behind. The sound of laughter was carried along the shore by the light wind that blew gently.
Derek and Meredith stood in the shallow part of the water, dangling Oscars feet in, hearing his laughter as they pulled up out the way of the big waves. The rest of the family sat behind them, sharing memories and laughter. Oscar began to shiver so Meredith cuddled him tightly in his arms and carried him back up the beach and then wrapped him tightly in a towel.
"Hey Addie, how are we feeling?" Meredith allowed Oscar to latch on. She didn't feed him all the time anymore but every now and again she would allow him to feed, not wanting to loose this special bonding moment. She couldn't believe he was 10 months old already.
"I'm exhausted, the morning sickness has stopped now thank god." Addison rubbed her hand slowly over her small swell of a bump. They had found out she was pregnant a few weeks after the wedding and now she was around 3 months along.
"I miss it, the being pregnant. It's such a precious time and the bump, you will definitely miss that." Meredith pointed out.
"Don't let Derek hear you say that, he would happily get you knocked up again right here and right now if he had the choice." Mark laughed and then groaned as Addison slapped his shoulder.
"Ignore him." Addison rolled her eyes at him. "But on another note, when do you think you will have another baby?" Addison raised her eyebrows and smirked at Meredith.
"I don't know." She ran her finger over his cheek, smiling as Oscar's eyes closed and he drifted off to sleep. "We definitely want more, but we haven't talked about it yet. Also, Oscar is only 10 months old so it won't be for a while I reckon." Meredith's attention was diverted to Derek's figure walking up the beach.
His body glistened as the water trailed down his tone body. One of his hand reached up and brushed the wet hair out of his eyes, he smiled at Meredith which caused her to bite her lower lip.
"Yeah, she is definitely going to end up pregnant sooner rather than later." Addison pulled her sunglasses over her eyes and smiled at Mark, causing him to laugh.
Meredith adjusted her bikini top, cuddling a sleeping Oscar in her arm and then passing Derek a towel with her free hand.
"Thanks Mer." He rubbed the towel over his hair before dropping the towel around his neck. "Man, the water is refreshing. This holiday was so needed." Derek lay down and rested his head on Meredith's legs.
"Hey, I'm going to head back to the hotel. Let Oscar sleep and start getting ready for tonight." Meredith ran her fingers through Derek's hair and he sat up. "You coming?" Meredith asked Derek before pushing to her feet.
"You go ahead, I'll bring everything back up in a minute." He smiled up at her before passing her oscars blanket. She leaned down and pressed her lips to his.
"Alright, you coming Addie?" She watched as Addison nodded her before grabbing her bag, kissing Mark quickly and then they set off up the beach.
Mark waited until they were out of earshot before turning to Derek.
"So is tonight the night." Mark asked, watching as Derek kept his eyes on Meredith's retreating form.
"Yeah, it is." Derek finally turned towards Mark. "I'm going to ask Meredith to marry me, again. But do it properly this time."
Mark congratulated Derek by slapping him on the back before they collected their things and headed back up to their hotel. When Derek returned back to his room, he heard the shower running and found Oscar slowly waking up in his bed.
"Hey little man. You're going to be my wing man tonight and help me ask your mommy to marry me." Derek whispered to Oscar.
"Mamamama." Oscar mumbled over and over again, smiling up at Derek.
Derek heard the bathroom door open and watched as Meredith walked out, wrapped in a towel and brushing her wet hair. Her hair was a lighter blonde, bleached by the sun and her skin was sun kissed. She was beautiful.
"Showers free." She moved past Derek and brushed her lips against his quickly. Derek was quick the shower before allowing Meredith back in to finish getting ready. He quietly got himself and Oscar ready before heading out of the hotel room, making sure the ring was secured tightly in his pocket.
Meredith exited the bathroom, with her dried in loose curls over her shoulder, a fresh, bare face and dressed in a light, flowing white summer dress. She walked out and frowned at the quietness and emptiness of the room. She saw a note resting on the bedside table and moved out to reach for it.
'Meet us at the beach, we will be waiting.
Love Derek and Oscar x'Meredith smiled at Derek messy handwriting before grabbing her phone and leaving the hotel room. She exited the hotel and moved her way to the beach, slipping off her shoes as she her feet met the sand. White petals decorated the ground around her and was leading her off towards the glowing of lights in the distance.
As she walked closer and closer, she noticed it was Derek stood there with Oscar in his arms.
"Derek, what's going on?" She pointed at the petals on the floor and the lights that were hanging up around the trees that ran across the edge of the beach. Candles were also decorating along the floor with the petals.
"Look Oscar, mommy is finally here." Derek bounced him in his arms before passing him over to Meredith. "You look beautiful." Meredith blushed as Derek cupped her cheek in his hand. "So you're probably wondering why I've dragged you down to the beach." Meredith nodded her head.
Meredith watched as Derek shuffled his feet and she took this time to take in her appearance. He was wearing a light blue shirt, with top few buttons undone and wearing a pair of tan trousers.
"So, I don't even know where to start." Derek laughed nervously before putting his hand around the ring box. "Meredith, you are the love of my life, you gave me the greatest gift of becoming a father. From the minute you entered my life, I've been the happiest. You know what, I'm just going to do it." Derek slowly got down onto one knee.
"Derek." Meredith whispered, tears springing to her eyes.
"Meredith Grey, will you do me the absolute honour of becoming my wife, will you marry me?" Derek opened the ring box and watched as Meredith gasped at the same ring she previously wore sat in front of her.
Meredith couldn't speak, the tears rolled her cheeks as she nodded her head erratically. Derek stood to his feet and slipped the ring onto Meredith's finger before pulling her face to his. Their lips pressed together passionately and pulled apart laughing when Oscar squealed and clapped his hands together. Derek wrapped his arms around his family and pulled them into his chest.
They were engaged, this was perfect. Standing together in each other's arms watching as the sun set in the distance.
