Scarlet POV

". . . That's really sweet. Where is your mom anyway?" I ask.

Aloha sighs, "She's not here."

"Where is she?" I push the conversation on.

He shakes his head, "No...you misunderstood. She's not here."

. . .

"Oh."

He nods a bit, looking away, "It's alright, she was sick. I was told she wouldn't live for much longer."

"That doesn't make it any worse."

"Nah, but, it's been years now." He counters me, turning to his phone once again.

"Who're you talking to?"

". . . me?"

"Yeah, you," I respond, trying to lighten the mood a bit.

"Oh. Duh. Sorry. I'm talking to my friend, Diver." He responds.

"Diver?" I question. He nods.

"Yeah, he's one of my teammates!" He smiles a bit.

I return the smile, "That's wonderful. Are you guys close?"

"Close doesn't even begin to explain!" Aloha exclaims. "We've been best friends for years! Long before we were a team."

"Nice, so you know each other pretty well, then?" I offer, trying to carry the happy mood. He nods.

"Yeah."

"Hello, kids, I'm Officer Tee. I'll be taking you home."

We didn't argue or struggle against him, we just followed him to the car and he started driving us home. I was closer so we went to my house first. I didn't mind much. It's not like Aloha was judgmental or anything. I hope...

We stopped in front of my house, a huge mansion house. My father stood out in the front yard.

"Scarlet, there you are! Are you alright? I heard what happened." He says, greeting me and walking up to me, letting me out of the car.

"Of course, Father. I'm just fine," I respond. "Where's Sister?"

"She's gone out with a few friends for her camping trip. She won't be back for a week, remember?" Father says, shutting the door behind me. I left Aloha behind in the car, without looking back.

Father led me back into our home, sighing a bit as he did.

"Who was that boy?" He asks me.

I look up at him, "He is a friend. A new friend. We're in the same class at school together. He was helping me with my project unlike Vintage."

"Who's Vintage?"

"My supposed-to-be project partner. Vintage is not. The boy is my new partner. According to me, at least. He said not to give him credit because he's already done his project although I'll still put his name on it. He's rather nice to me," I inform my father. "His name is Aloha."

"Aloha?" Father questions. "I heard he was trouble."

"No such thing, Father. He's a gentlemen," I attempt to convince my father with a small smile.

"Of course, of course, whatever you like. You kids nowadays don't listen anyway." He murmurs.

"Now, now, Father," I say, laughing lightly. "I've had a rough night, I'll be turning in...um, father...?"

He looks to me, questioningly. "What is it?"

". . . Please have the guards work tonight," I pleaded him.

"They're working full nights for the next week and a half. No need to worry, darling, head to sleep. The maid should be waiting for you in the hallway."

"Thank you, father. Goodnight."

"Goodnight," He replies, disappearing into his office like he usually does. I'm slightly surprised he even decided to come out to get me inside for the first time in forever.

My siblings and I usually go to him when we say goodnight or have an issue he needs to resolve. Not the other way around. I did not complain, however, Father is nice company to have. Not much family, but, we make it work.

I met up with the maid and she led me to my room.

It was a silent walk, she was one of the newer maids. I had not seen her before. She wore a twisty headband and her eyes and ink color were a pretty golden color.

I did not speak to her until we reached my room. She spoke first, "Miss, your room."

"Thank you so much, you're excused. Oh, by the way, I love the color of your eyes. They're very pretty." I tell her, smiling before heading into my room. She nodded a thank you, heading down the hallway as the guards passed her, coming to my door. I felt safe at home now. Like I could sleep in peace.

Although, my brain had other ideas. I couldn't even close my eyes for more than a few minutes without feeling the need to shift or roll over, despite being comfortable in the previous spot.

It was slightly annoying.

But, I still tried to get some sleep.

I shut my eyes once more.
