“What took you so long? I’ve been standing here what it feels like forever!” I pulled my trolley with me as I walked towards Aiden. “You know Rennes’ airport isn’t my favourite”“Well, it’s nice to see you too little sister and I am glad we have something in common.” He took my duffle bag and threw them on the back seat grinning ear to ear.
True though, apart from the same caramel hair and green flecked eyes, nothing was common. Only our face resembled but characters didn’t .
“Ha ha ha” I rolled my eyes and got in. He hesitated a few seconds before starting the engine as he drove towards home. Home sweet home! For the rest of the ride all we did was catching up for the missing months.

“ANNA! My dear! ” Mum squealed running up to the doorstep hugging me as I hugged back. “You could have informed us, we would have delayed the guests” her voice taking a foreign edge. Dad hesitated behind my mom. Everybody was acting weird.
“Its fine mum, I got the job you know! At S8s’!”I couldn’t hold back anymore.
“WOAH! And you kept this a secret all way long?” Aiden starred at me wide eyed giving me a large grin. His kinda amused expression. While mom and dad exchanged glances.
“You must be tired hon, go upstairs and fresh up. We’ll set the dinner up.” Dad said waving towards the stairs.
Aiden and I took the stairs to our room. This is the chance. “Ed, what’s up with them? They are clearly uncomfortable having me here. Did I do something?”
He stopped in front of her room and let out a long breathe and looked down.
“You know” it was a statement rather than a question.
“Anna, it’s not you, it’s them. And it is not my thing to tell you too. But about the guests, Mendes family are coming over for dinner” his voice struggled to keep out the....hate? Anyone who
didn’t know him won’t notice. But it’s different for me. I have been with him for my life.“The Mendes family?” I scoffed at the idea of them coming over. Mr Mendes, Jared Mendes have been my father’s business partner. They both started the firm from scraps and now share the seat of CEO. He’s a very moral person. You would always want to respect him I can tell. Mrs Mendes, Cilia Mendes was a woman with whom you would never want to meet twice. Her brags about her son will be enough for you at first only.
So no need of a second session.
But Henry, their only son and my brother’s basketball “wannabe captain” teammate, though the whole school knew Aiden was the one for captainship.
“Henry will be there” Aiden’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Urgh! You will tell them that I caught a bug or help me hiding his corpse right?” my frustration was legit. He kept hitting on me since middle school. Thanks to Aiden’s intimidating image, he didn’t make a move. Jerk.
“Anna, you will behave and dress nicely. It’s important” he walked into his room leaving me dazed at his stern voice.
Call me whatever you want, I will tolerate anyone’s high voice or sternness but not Aiden’s. He has his own way of loving. He would bring down hell on you if you even touch a hair on me. Let alone laying a hand. But he rarely used this voice. Only twice, one if I really do something bad. Two, he’s guilty.
He's guilty?Of what?
✤
I walked out of my shower and glanced at the clock. 7:00. 30 minutes until they arrive.
“Dress nicely” Aiden’s voice rang the back of my mind.
I shook my head and shrugged into a black lace flowy dress reaching till my thighs, the lace covering my arms and collarbones [refer to the picture given/imagine as you like]
I made no effort in makeup. Just mascara and a slight brush of nude pink would be nice on cheeks and let my hair loose.
I walked down the stairs and sat beside Aiden on the sofa. We didn’t talk after that conversation.
He pulled me onto his lap so my back was on his chest. “I am sorry , for snapping at you-”
Ding! Here goes the doorbell...
Aiden looked up, his jaw clenched “-and for what’s coming. And the worst thing, I did nothing to stop”
Before I could ask any further, he was up on his legs towards the door.
What the hell?
