CHAPTER 10 - "IT" IS OVER

TWO DAYS LATER school started.

A typical everyday school routine for Chloe Anderson included awakening from six o' clock to get ready.  After showering and blowing drying my long brown hair I usually did my makeup without going too far with it though, just black mascara and a pink lipstick were enough. After that I usually got dressed in my 'best first day of school' outfit which was a pink bow sundress and brown sandals. Lastly I brushed my hair and let them cascading down my back in perfect ringlets and made sure my outfit was 'on point' or otherwise my mom would send me back to my room again to change. "Physical appearance is everything." She always said.

And here's me thinking that personality was everything.

Well, whatever works for you mom.

At around seven thirty the whole Anderson Family gathered in the kitchen and had breakfast and talk about 'today's schedule'.  But the first day of school the topic was different; our behavior.

"Be kind and friendly with everyone" Our mom said "Always smile. If they ask you about your summer answer 'It was great, thank you, how was yours?' because even though you don't actually care, that's the right and appropriate answer."  Jeez mom if we were only seventeen and had no idea how to socialize!

After that Seth and I got money from her for lunch –after of course we kiss her on the cheek 'goodbye'- got mom's approval for our outfits and left for school. I drove us to school, which was only ten minutes far and when we arrived I parked the car and Seth immediately jumped out of the car without even saying 'goodbye'.

"Well have a nice day too." I said sarcastically to... well no one and looked one last time on the mirror. The first day of school always made me anxious. The fact that I had to make a good impression to everyone just to make my mom happy made me feel annoyed and nervous at the same time. After taking a few deep breaths, I plastered my best 'fake smile' -as Ryder called it- and got out of the car.

I tossed my long brown hair behind my shoulder and with my backpack slugged in my shoulder I started walking out of the parking lot to the school's entrance. I gained a lot of stares on my way there and I could already imagine what everyone was thinking; how much I had gotten pretty over the summer, where did I go, where I got that tan, blah blah.

I saw my friends standing on the steps of the school's entrance and walked towards them.

"Good morning girls." I said as cheerfully as I could. "Had a nice summer?" Wow, politeness 101. Mom must be so proud of me.

They all began telling me about their summer adventures on Europe and I pretended I was listening, even though I didn't. Because I really, really didn't care. At all. But since we were 'friends' it was the polite thing to do. Apart from Annabelle I didn't really hang out with anyone outside of school. Everyone's parents here in Oakheart were really strict and didn't let their kids go out. At least not after Afternoon.

When it was my time to talk about my 'summer adventures', which pretty much were nonexistent since they only 'summer adventure' I really had was picking up drunken Seth from all kinds of places, the deep roaring of a very familiar motorcycle cut me off. We all turned our heads in time to see Ryder West parking his motorcycle, a few feet away from us to the bicycle racks. That's how 'badass' he was.  I had a déjà vu then, to the first time I ever saw him at his first day in school when pretty much the same thing happened.

When he climbed of his motorcycle, he took his helmet off and –probably- feeling our stares he looked up towards us while running his tongue from the inside of his mouth something that made the girls blush and look down embarrassed. When his eyes fell on me he didn't hide it to check me up and down while smirking.
