CHAPTER 16
trust in your comrades

'i can fight, even alone, can't I?'  eren hesitated as he raised his left arm to his mouth, debating whether it was the right time transform into a titan. the chaos around him, the screams of his comrades and the brutal killings the female titan has committed which had been wiping out the survey corps at a drastic pace fueled eren's desperation.

"what are you doing, eren?!" petra yelled, her eyes not once drifting from the boy next to her. "you should only do that when your life is in grave danger. didn't you promise us that?!" even with her words eren didn't bother to lower his hand and grab the reins of his horse. it was clear that eren was lost in his thoughts. his focus was sharp and locked on the thought of defeating the female titan, alone.

"no matter how you try to hold him down, no matter what cage you lock him in—forcing his mind into submission is an impossible task." levi said, his gaze still focused on the path in front of him but his tone as cold as ice.

as the squad ventured deeper into the forest, the dense scent of pines was overwhelmed by the pungent stench of blood—it became unbearable. the forest once tranquil had become a battlefield drenched in the evidence of death.

another soldier came into view, racing ahead in a desperate attempt to strike the female titan. but before the attack could land, the titans swift and merciless encounter took him down—another life gone in an instant. eren couldn't stop watching as each of his comrades died a gruesome death, but he could stop this—if he could just transform.

"eren! this might not be the most comforting words to hear right now, but please, believe in us. trust in your comrades."

"she's right eren! believe in us!" you yelled, fear still plastered across your face. you weren't as experienced as levi, petra, or even oluo. you've faced one gruesome battle, but they've faced countless. they know what it's like to see their comrades—their friends die. they bear the burden of the lost lives they were unable to protect.

"eren! hurry up! decide already!" levi yelled to which eren responded with: "i'll keep going!"

but, was it a mistake? would it have been better if he transformed?
