The bell rung for my final class so I began my journey to my house straight away.
Oh shit, I forgot to buy a new bus ticket, so now I had to walk... The weather wasn't looking promising.
As soon as I entered my room I scanned my closet to look for clothes. Isayama said to "wear nicer clothes" today. I checked my watch for the time, it was 4:07pm and I had to be at Isayama's by 7pm. I had time. I'll leave at 6:30.
I ran a bath and chucked a "green" scented bath bomb in the tub before going back to my bedroom to grab my phone.
It would probably be in my best interest to order food today. I'd been craving Chinese food.
I dialled the number of the chinese store and let the phone ring as I got undressed.
"Good afternoon! Thankyou for calling Szcheuan Delight, how may I help you?" the customer service lady spoke.
"Hi can I get a sweet and sour chicken noodle box with extra prawns."
"Of course! Would you like any sides or drinks with your meal?"
"Two regular monster energy drinks please."
"For sure! Would you like to add anything else to your order or will that be all?"
"Yeah that's all."
"Okay just to confirm, one sweet and sour chicken noodle box with extra prawns, and two regular monsters?"
"Yeah."
"Will you be paying through our app or upon delivery, and if upon delivery, cash or card?"
"I'll use cash upon delivery thanks."
"Awesome! Please can you state your address and house number?"After ending the phone call, I turned on the slowed down version of "Burning Pile" by Mother Mother, putting it on loop as I shut my eyes and emerged my body into the sparkly green water.
The muffled lyrics began to echo in my mind.
All my money been a long time spent
On my drugs, on my rent
On my saving philosophy
It goes, one in the bank, and the rest for meIt goes, all my troubles on a burning pile
All lit up and I start to smile
If I, catch fire then I change my aim
Throw my troubles at the pearly gatesSoon enough, the doorbell rang.
They said it would take 30 minutes- it had barely been 15.
I stumbled out of the bathroom with a singular towel wrapped around my torso, leaving a trail of wet footsteps down the marble staircase and all the way to the door.
I opened the door to see a boy stood in front of me who portrayed the exact opposite image to the bubbly woman who spoke to me on the phone. He looked around my age and looked like he didn't want to be here.
He didn't look Japanese at all. His tanned skin and defined bone structure was not of the typical Japanese male features. His eyes were slanted downwards in a tired manner and his hair was messy, yet he was insanely attractive.
I noticed his watch light up as a notification came through, his watch face was the pride flag.
As I saw him scan my upper body, I immediately remembered that I was shirtless, causing goosebumps to erupt all over me.He cleared his throat, "Your order..." and began to read the receipt in a bored manner, yet, in flawless Japanese.
I wondered why he took the job in the first place if he hated it as much as he seemed to."Why do you work for a Chinese store?" I asked when he was done, causing him to stare at me momentarily before speaking again.
"I needed an income that isn't pocket money so I got a job." he replied simply.
"I mean, you could work elsewhere. You seem to not like your job."
"And how so?" he blinked.
"You just come across as though you don't want to work where you work." I replied in an obvious tone.He sighed, "Some of us don't have a choice and have to do what they do to get by. Not all of us can be given what they want from their mommies and daddies." he nodded towards the inside of my house.
"It's not as simple as that." I said, "Do you wanna come in maybe? I get it if you have to get back to work."
"Why not, I don't want to deliver that many more orders and you don't seem like a kidnapper anyway." he shrugged."Right. I'm Kageyama Tobio, by the way." I nodded, letting the boy inside.
"I'm Javier, you can just call me my first name because I'm Spanish so I don't really care about the formalities." he spoke, taking his shoes off."So why are you in Japan?" I asked.
"My parents' business."
"Ah. Ive been in Japan my entire life."
"Really?" he asked portraying slight emotion, he seemed perplexed."Yeah.. are you shocked by that?"
"I thought you travelled internationally for sport or something." he shrugged, sitting down on the couch.
"How do you know I do sport?" I asked, wondering if I knew him from somewhere."Your body." he said plainly, dragging his eyes across my body yet again, causing me to remember that I wasn't properly clothed.
I turned around quickly, bounding up the staircase to my bedroom, "One second!" I shouted to the stranger that I invited into my house.
As soon as I entered my room, I frantically ruffled a towel through my wet hair and scavenged through clothes in my closet until I could find suitable ones. By the time I was done, my heart was pounding out of my chest.
I returned, within seconds, to my guest now wearing tracksuit bottoms and a fitted band t-shirt.
"That was fast." he said.
"Fast indeed." I responded.
"You know what else can move pretty fast...?" He asked lewdly, smirking with cockiness plastered all over his face. Before I could respond he stood up and stood directly in front of me, eye to eye, giving me the most prude of grins I had ever seen.
