I was where I’d been all week while the boys had been away, tucked up in Aston’s bed the shades of his windows pulled tight, with hardly any light seeping in. My eyes were red and dry, I’d run out of tears over the last few nights. Now I was just numb and in pain.
I’d called and told Mosley I was coming and immediately they’d booked up my ticket, telling me they’d have everything else sorted for when I got there.
I was just dreading telling Aston about it all.
I must have dozed off because I woke up to a soft hand on my forehead, and then my cheek.
“Baby what you doing here,” said a voice. Slowly I opened my eyes and tried to adjust my vision to the dim light of the room. “You ok?” he asked kissing my forehead gently.
Slowly I slid up to a sitting position in bed, nodding my head slightly.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, the worry obvious on his face. To be fair, I did look a right mess.
“Did you make it?” I croaked out.
“Babe, what’s going on, you’re scaring me,” he said, ignoring my question.
“I’m fine… Did you make it?” I pressed on.
“Yeahhh…” he smiled.
“Aww babe,” I replied, leaning forward and wrapping my arms around his neck, “Congratulations, I knew you’d make it.”
“Thanks,” he said pulling away and kissing me tenderly. “Missed you though.”
“Missed you too,” I sighed.
Gingerly I got up out of bed, pulling him with me. “Cup of tea?” I asked. “You can tell me all about Louis’ house.”
“Sure,” he said warily, I could tell he knew something was up. I just didn’t know how to tell him.
I busied myself in the kitchen, putting some biscuits on a plate and pulling out some fruit while the water boiled. I couldn’t even look him in the eye, although the entire time I did this he stood staring at me, his eyes narrowed. Slowly he walked over to the kettle and switched it off, and then he took the plate of biscuits out of my hands and set it on the table.
“What’s going on Jessica,” he asked firmly. His hands were on my shoulders and he was looking me straight in the eyes. I couldn’t help it, I burst into tears.
“You aren’t going to like it,” I said between sobs.
“What’s happened?” he asked nervous. “Are you ok?”
“I’m fine,” I sighed, avoiding eye contact.
“Tell me Jess,” he said firmly, shaking my shoulders slightly.
“I got a job,” I whispered.
“What? That’s fantastic!” said Aston, a huge smile creeping up on his face.
“It’s in LA,” I added, only then chancing a look at Aston's face. He looked like he'd been smacked upside the head, his mouth open and his eyes wide in shock.
