It was the day I had slightly been dreading. I was up way earlier than I ever wanted to be as the boys were off to Judge’s Houses in a matter of hours. I’d helped Aston pack his clothes the night before, unsure of where in the world he might be heading. He was buzzing with excitement at the prospect of maybe going somewhere exotic with Cheryl Cole. I was slightly jealous.
JB’s friend was coming to pick him up to go to the airport, where they were to meet the producers of the show and the other groups in their category, before finding out where they were off to. While we were waiting we sat cuddled up on the couch with a cup of tea each.
“I’ll miss you,” I said linking my fingers with Aston’s and playing with them a bit, my head leant on his chest.
“I’ll miss you more babe,” he said. “I’m proud of you, you know.”
He was referring to the fact that I’d had an interview at a small production house in North London. After our little drama about pursuing my dreams I’d become more insistent about finding a producing job. I’d created a new demo CD and sent it off to all of the same production houses as my first, plus more. It was a bit edgier, more bass and more mixing involved in the tracks. I was really proud of it. Just days after I sent it off, I’d gotten a call about meeting the head of a production house. I’d gone to meet him and we’d discussed my hopes and dreams in regard to working in the music industry. He told me how much he liked my demos and that the company prided themselves in discovering new acts. In return I told him about helping the boys with their X Factor preparations and my DJing gigs. He’d promised to call me back with a decision in the next few days.
As I sat on the couch with Aston I thought back to that meeting. It had been four days now, surely I’d hear soon?
Aston’s phone started buzzing on the table and he sighed and stood up to answer it. “Yup, I’m ready. Ok see you in a sec,” he said into the phone.
“They here?” I asked.
“Nearly.”
“Best get you outside then.”
“Hold on, let me give you a goodbye kiss here… don’t want to cause a scene…” he smirked. Slowly he took hold of my cheeks, leaning in and giving me a deep kiss. It was one of those kisses that you didn’t want to have end. It was so luxurious and perfect and it made me tingle from my head to my toes. “I don’t want to go,” he whispered.
“You’ve got to,” I smiled taking hold of his hands and squeezing them. “I’ll see you soon enough.”
“You better have good news for me when I get back,” he smiled, referring to the interview I’d had.
“Hopefully!” I said. I leaned in and kissed him again, I just couldn’t get enough. Without pause he wrapped his hands tight around my waist, really getting into the kiss.
We were snapped out of it by a buzzing sensation, Aston’s phone.
“Time to go now,” I said smiling and opening the door. Aston grabbed his bag and then slipped out the door. With my keys in my pocket I followed him down the stairs and out to the street. While he put his bag in the back of the car I wished the other boys good luck.
“Bye babe,” said Aston wrapping his arms around me. “I’ll text you where we end up going,” he said.
“Ohh you’re naughty,” I smiled. “You know that’s against the rules.”
“I don’t care,” he said, “Gotta stay in touch with my number one girl.”
“Awww babe,” I smiled. “Good luck, be yourself and have fun ok?” I said as the boys shouted for Aston to get into the car.
“Bye baby,” he said giving me one more, quick kiss.
I watched as he jumped in the car and the boys drove away. I felt a weird sadness come over me as they drove away, they were only going to be away for a few days, why was I so sad?
