"I use my Tornado Top for defense while my Dancing Tops handle the offensive!" He cackled evilly. "It might be lame, but it's effective for racking up those points!"
Then we all noticed his Ten fading away, and I gasped. "Gon!" I cried.
"What the hell is he doing?" Lynn snarled. "That's totally reckless!"
"You idiot!" Killua snapped. "If you get hit by a Nen attack without any protection, that'll totally mess you up!"
I couldn't believe it. He was risking his life just to figure out what to do with this power. It would be a lot easier if he didn't have to act so reckless to fight Gido and instead train with the rest of us while Wing taught us more about Nen. That was the one thing I really didn't like about him at all.
The audience cheered when he dodged an attack for once. We watched in astonishment as he continued to dodge more tops. He jumped up and got ready to land a hit on Gido as he kept spinning around, ready to finish him once and for all...
"Your right radius and ulna are both broken. A fractured humerus. Three broken ribs and twelve other minor fractures. It'll take four months for you to heal." Killua stated.
Lynn and I stared at the injured Gon with a disappointed look on our faces. "What in the world are you actually thinking with that small brain of yours? You knew that you wouldn't stand a chance against someone who knew more about Nen than you." She grumbled. "You should blame yourself for what you did." Her voice sounded like that of a mother's when scolding her children.
"You moron." He mumbled under his breath.
"Sorry!" Gon stuck out his tongue while looking at us with his usual innocent face.
"An apology isn't gonna help! Don't you have any brains in there at all?" Killua screamed in his face, poking his forehead. "Didn't you see what happened to anyone who went through it? The Nen initiation? One wrong move and you could've ended up like them! It coulda been a lot worse, so you're lucky. Man, why do you think Four-Eyes was training us?"
"Still..." Gon chuckled nervously. "I had a feeling I'd be okay."
I scowled and got my face closer to his in an irritated way. "Can't you get the idea that I got so worried sick about you? You could've died for God's sake! All because you couldn't think carefully about how would you gonna win by only using Ten, and you deactivated it without any warning! Seriously, how are you going to keep fighting if you don't have enough strength and knowledge to figure out your opponent's weaknesses? Huh?"
"Well, I—OW!" He was interrupted by Killua's leg pushing on his broken arm, causing more pain. Lynn forced it away, glaring at the ex-assassin. Then we heard a knock on the door. "Come in." She called.
Killua opened the door and saw Wing standing at the doorway, looking displeased. "Oh. It's you, Four-Eyes." She smacked his head, and he growled at her. "You should do a better job respecting elders, young man."
I saw Wing coming to Gon, and he stood next to his bed. "I'm sor—" He gave him a hard slap to his face. I formed an open-mouthed expression from the unexpected thing that just happened. "Apologizing won't help! Didn't you see what happened to those who went through Nen initiation? You could easily have ended up like them!"
"Yeah. That's what I just told him." Killua said.
Wing sighed and placed a hand on Gon's shoulder. "Honestly, I'm glad it wasn't any worse."
"Mr. Wing, I'm really sorry."
He gave him a warm smile before turning it into a dry one. "I won't let this slide. Killua, how long does it take for him to completely recover?"
"The doctor said it'd take about two months." Killua lied, and his cat face appeared. I stayed quiet to let him buy it and Gon would continue fighting.
"I see. Well, in that case, I won't allow you to participate in any matches for two months! Nor will I allow the study of or training in Nen. If you choose not to abide by these rules, I will never teach you any more about it again. Do you understand?"
"Yes, I understand. I'll do as you say." Gon answered.
"Very well. Give me your left hand, please." He got out a blueish-green thread and wrapped it around his pinky finger. "This is a promise thread. It reminds you of the promise you made."
"Okay."
"Killua. Ladies. A moment, please." We nodded and Wing led us out of the room and out of Heavens Arena. We sat down on a bench and listened to him ask us some questions.
"So tell me, what is the true goal all of you are pursuing here?" He asked.
"We don't really have one." Killua answered. "Before we ran into you and Zushi, I just wanted to make some money faster."
"Lizzy and I wanted to get stronger to avenge our parents, and we're trying to find who's responsible for their death." Lynn explained.
"And Gon wanted to beat Hisoka, a creepy guy who knows all about the 200th floor. He's here to train hard as well as we are." I added.
"Everyone on the 200th floor just wanted to reach the top." Killua casually stated. "The Battle Olympia, right? Yeah, I'm not too interested. I'm not sure about Gon though..."
"I wanted to get a shot at competing." I told Wing.
"He said that he doesn't care what happens. He only wanted to fight Hisoka. But after yesterday's match, I don't know. I get the feeling that he just enjoys the thrill."
"So you're saying that he was enjoying a situation that could very well have cost him his life?"
"Exactly." I sighed.
"I would know because I've felt the same way myself." Killua told him. "At least I get to pick and choose my battles whenever I want to."
"Gon is the kind of person who sets his mind to something and never intends to give up until he gets what he wanted." Lynn described. "Once he's in the zone, he loses sight of everything else."
"But he's not the kind of person to break a promise twice, so don't worry 'bout that!" He grinned.
Wing looked like he was lost in his own thoughts until Killua spoke up. "It's too late. Because we already know what we need to know."
"Yeah, and if you want to back out from teaching us, that's fine. We'll simply find someone else or learn it ourselves if we can." She replied.
"You don't have to feel responsible. My brother can use Nen, and Hisoka can, too. So we were bound to find out about it eventually." He started to walk down the stairs and back into Heavens Arena, but was stopped by Wing. "I understand, and I intend to finish what I started. There are many things I have yet to teach you boys and girls. You can train with Zushi if you like. He's waiting in my room."
There was a brief silence as we were thinking about it. "Nah, I'll pass." A response came from Killua, surprising the man. "I don't want to leave Gon behind."
I frowned and agreed with him. "Me neither. When he recovers and keeps his promise, we'll train with him." I walked away with Killua, and Lynn followed us.
"Tell him to work on the other Nen, the 'flame,' and tell him to practice Ten every day!" He called.
"Okay, we will!" I answered cheerfully, and then I saw his shirt. "And Mr. Wing?"
"Yes?"
"Your shirt's untucked." I pointed at his untucked shirt, causing him to look down and sigh. "Oh, right. Thank you." He tucked it in, growing embarrassed. I giggled and waved to him. "Bye!" I skipped my way back into Heavens Arena, feeling glad that Gon got to train in his Ten while he was still recovering.
As soon as we got to Gon's room, we saw him meditating and decided to join him. I sat down on the floor and closed my eyes, learning to keep my aura within myself. I emptied my mind from yesterday and focused on the same landscape I held on when I first learned Ten. All I felt was happiness and nothing else. My feelings would continue to grow and someday, I would get a chance to open up to that someone I had gotten myself into a liking for a long time. My heart was desperately waiting for the right moment. I wouldn't let anyone get in my way of doing so. I would tell him how I felt, I promised myself.
