I stared at the black phone, waiting for it to ring. This was the third night that I had waited for it to ring and hear Katelyn's voice on the other line, a sweet voice full of desperation and pleading for solace. But maybe she was doing fine and that was why she wasn't calling.

"I'm bein' a doggone idiot," I muttered and lay flat on my bed and stared up at the white ceiling.

"You've got that right, Elvis," the Colonel said as he came into my room, and he was wearing a tan suit, no hat this time, showing his bald head. "Stop waiting at that phone why don't you? You can't answer it anyway."

"I know, but you agreed that if she called, you would hand the phone over to me."

"I did." He chuckled. "You're ridiculous, Elvis, waiting for a phone call from a girl. I really wish you hadn't given her the number for that phone."

"Well, you saw how scared she was. I've been in her shoes. I just wanna help if I can."

"Uh-huh," he said, not too convinced. "You just couldn't pass up the opportunity to give a girl your number."

I smirked. "Okay, okay you caught me. But I really did wanna help out in case she needs to vent or somethin'."

"You're a good man."

I grinned, flattered by that. "Thanks. You have your moments, too."

He waved a hand, as if dismissing me. I laughed. My heart jumped to the roof when the phone started ringing. I bolted into a sitting position and went to the phone.

"Hey, hey, hands off," the Colonel commanded and took the phone handle but didn't pick it up. My heart raced faster than a race car.

"Well, what are ya waitin' for?! Answer it."

He was messing with me on purpose since I had been waiting for this call for three days. I had never given my number out like I did. I wasn't going to let this go to waste.

"Colonel Tom Parker," he answered, and he listened to the other line. "Oh, no, it's not too late. No, he's here." Silence. "Is that so? Okay, very well." A pause and I wondered why he heck he wasn't handing the phone over. "Yes, goodnight." He hung up and I glared at him. "Will you stop with that look? That wasn't your precious Miss Brier."

My face muscles eased. "It wasn't?"

"No, it was Mr. Willis, about the photoshoot tomorrow."

"What about it?"

"Well, you were expecting Miss Brier... you weren't too far off. They want the two if you in the photoshoot. Turns out she signed on with William Morris today, just fifteen minutes ago, actually, and her first official gig as a star is a photoshoot with the famous Elvis Presley who fans want to see together with her. It'll be good for both of your images. And I'll have you know that she'll be wearing that shirt with your face on it."

A wide grin emerged. So she decided to sign with them, huh? Good for her. Maybe this will result in us working together more often, especially in photoshoots. Knowing these people who put together these photoshoots, Katelyn and I are going to be right up close to each other.

"You're grinning like a fool," the Colonel remarked.

"I know I am. I'm so happy for Katelyn, that she got passed her fear of jumpin' into the deep end of the pool."

"You had something to do with it. That girl's as crazy about you as you are about her."

"You think so?" I asked hopefully.

He came and sat on the end of the bed. He let out a large sigh. "Oh boy, we're in for this one. Or more I am."

"What do you mean?"
