V. VISIONS
-CHATTER THROUGHOUT the crowd echoed through the throne room, beautiful music filling the space in the background.
The King sat and watched as his subjects entertained themselves, drinking the finest wine as they gossiped and flirted.
Annalise sat in between Aylee and Greer at the table, watching as Kenna and the other noblewomen at court danced on the stone floor of the throne room.
The Princess felt nauseous sitting next to Greer, unable to tell her friend that she could possibly be marrying the man she'd had her eye on.
Then again, she might not. She might marry Francis. Annalise thought she'd be happy at this prospect, and perhaps Francis would convince her to be once he found out. Surely he would.
Unfortunately, all she felt at this moment was guilt. She wasn't sure she wanted to marry either of them, or even if she wanted to marry anyone at all. Annalise hated the idea of a man having so much power over her life.
The possibility of a wedding between Anna and Francis was all the both of them had fantasized about as children, but now that it was possibly coming to fruition, the thought made her a bit queasy.
It seemed as though either way, Annalise would become a queen, which was something she adamantly never wanted.
Mary was the queen in the family. She was calm, articulate, diplomatic.
Annalise was wild, impulsive and dramatic. She ran around palaces barefoot, she assaulted English envoys.
Annalise was not a queen. She could not rule a country, whether it was by Francis' side or not.
"Are you alright?" Aylee nudged her Princess, bringing her back to reality. Aylee was the only lady who knew of the situation at hand.
"I'm fine, lost in thought," Annalise smiled.
"You needn't worry," Aylee whispered. "Everything will happen as it should, and if need be, you'll be a wonderful queen,"
Annalise smiled, smoothing out the skirts of her deep black dress as she stood, beckoning for Aylee, Greer, and Lola to follow. "We have sat for long enough, I would say it is time to go join our dear Kenna and dance,"
Just as they were standing, the King called out from his throne. "Nostradamus," Annalise sat down as Henry rested his chin on his hand as the musicians ceased their playing. "Why don't you share your wisdom with all of us?"
