~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Third Person POV
Meridan stood firm in front of all the clans as well as his own family. He had to do what he felt was right.
He steps forward. "I am Meridan, first born descendant of Clan DunBroch and I'll be shooting for my own hand!"
Gasps escape from the crowd and mumbling follows. The Clan leaders couldn't believe what was happening. They look to the king and queen for answers.
Eleanor stands from her throne and spoke quietly to herself. "What are you doing?"
(Y/N) looks to the queen knowing immediately that she was baffled and confused. She looked back out at the archery range towards Meridan.
As Meridan prepares to take aim he finds moving difficult in his suit as it's too tight.
Eleanor calls out to him. "Merida!"
Meridan growls slightly to himself. "Curse this suit!"
He bends forward and his suit rips at the back and arms allowing him to move freely. He wastes no time and aims, hitting the first target dead center.
"Meridan, stop this!" Eleanor calls out making her way from her spot with the royal family, towards Meridan.
Meridan ignored his mother's calls, moving to the second target. He aims and shoots the center again.
Eleanor was fuming and (Y/N) could see it. "Don't you dare release another arrow!"
(Y/N) took a step to follow after the queen, but Fergus stuck his hand out in front of her. "Not now lass.. this is for them to solve, we need to stay out of it.." She could tell Fergus understood what Meridan was going through, but he also knew there was no way to change it.
Meridan took another arrow and prepared to shoot the third target by placing the arrow on his bow.
"Meridan, I forbid it!" Eleanor calls out again.
In that moment, Meridan took a breath and shot the arrow. The world seemed to go in slow motion before picking up speed again and hitting the center of the target, splitting the young Dingwall's arrow in half.
The crowd breaks out into cheers at the feat all forgetting that this was a competition for the prince's hand.
Meridan smiles brightly, proud of his accomplishment. He turns to look towards the royal seating to look at (Y/N), but in his way stood his fuming mother. His face quickly darkens as he meets her gaze. This was not going to end well, but he wouldn't give up now.
Eleanor grabs ahold of Meridan's ear and drags him off, back to the castle.
(Y/N) ignores Fergus's warning and follows after the two, she was worried how heated things would get if the two were left alone.
This moment would be one to change their fates forever.
Inside the Castle
Eleanor opens the door to the tapestry room and throws Meridan inside. He was fuming and so was Eleanor.
"I don't believe you! I've just about had enough of you, lad!" Eleanor says loudly, almost yelling.
Meridan threw his hands up. "You're the one that want me to...!"
Eleanor started pacing the floor in her rage. "You just embarrassed them! You embarrassed me!"
"I followed the rules!" Meridian points out.
Eleanor points at Meridan. "You don't know what you've done!"
"I don't care how..." Meridan wanted his mother to understand, but she just wouldn't.
Eleanor's movements get larger."They'll be fire and sword if it's not set right."
"Just listen!" Meridan cries out
Eleanor turns to him and yells. "I am the queen! You listen to me!"
(Y/N) arrived in the doorway, she had no words to express how she felt about any of this. These two were going at each other's throats. She couldn't just let them go on like this, could she?
"Oh! This is so unfair!" Meridan throws his hands up.
Eleanor almosted laughed at that. "Huh! Unfair?"
"You were never there for me! This whole marriage is what you want! Do you ever bother to ask what I want? No! You walk around telling me what to do, what not to do! Trying to make me be like you! Well, I'm not going to be like you!" Meridan was swinging a sword around in his rage. He showed absolutely no care in the world about it. He just wanted his mother to listen.
Eleanor throws her hand out motioning to the sword. "Ach! You're acting like a child!"
"And you're a beast! That's what you are!" Meridan points the sword at his mother then points it at the family tapestry that Eleanor had spent so much time on.
Eleanor cries out trying to stop her son. "Meridan!"
"I will never be like you!" Meridian yells angrily. He was tired of letting her control his life.
Meridan sticks the tip of his sword into the tapestry.
Eleanor's eyes widened. "No! Stop that!"
"I'd rather die than be like you!" Suddenly Meridan slashes the tapestry, a line between him and the rest of the royal family.
Eleanor is so upset that she takes Meridan's bow away from him. Her anger could no longer be controlled.
"You are a prince! I expect you to act line one!" Eleanor yells.
(Y/N)'s eyes go wide as she watches the sight in front of her. Everything was moving in slow motion and she couldn't stop any of it.
Eleanor throws Meridan's bow the fire, shocked by his mother, Meridan runs out of the room, enraged and upset. He didn't notice (Y/N) who quickly followed after him.
"Meridan! Meridan!" Eleanor calls after her son.
Then she realizes what she has done and regret fills her body. She rushes over to the fireplace and pulls the bow out of the fire before it full burns. The string had snapped and the wood had started to burn. She noticed the carving of a bird and a bear cub, the ones that Meridan and (Y/N) had carved together.
"Oh, no! What have I done?" Elanor spoke softly to herself before weeping into her hands.
