Once the classes were over the next day, I found myself seated between Greengrass and Selwyn. I had to admit I was not so fond of Selwyn, she did not seem like a genuine person so I decided it would be best to not associate myself with her. Greengrass was a polite, shy girl, and while I did not mind her presence or company, she was too lifeless and quiet for me to be around.

I did not like silence. It resulted in me getting lost in my thoughts, which always ended in a disaster. The inside of my head was my enemy, I tried to steer clear from there as much as I could.

I preferred the company of Walburga Black, she always had something to rant about. I did not trust her, however, she was a good companion.

Then there were the followers of Tom Riddle. Throughout the day I interacted with some of them, they were either simply polite or overly flirtatious. Gabriel Lestrange was the most distant of them all. His nose was always buried in a book, and his eyes did not avert elsewhere unless it was Tom Riddle himself calling on him.

It was during dinner when I was serving myself some food that Selwyn decided to ask me a question. She cleared her throat loudly, an obvious attempt to gain the attention of those around her, nonetheless, I did not pay her any mind.

"Laurent?" Her high voice interrupted me from enjoying my meal. I looked up from my plate, looking at her expectantly with a blank expression. "I have a question for you." She stated in a professional manner.

I rolled my eyes at her before tilting my head. "Well, spit it out then." I watched with a small smirk as her nose flared slightly in annoyance before she plastered on a smile.

"What is your blood status?" She asked, tilting her chin up with a judgemental face. Tom Riddle, who was sitting across the table, immediately perked up and he looked at me with those intense eyes. It seemed it was the time to drop the bomb that would inevitably have Tom Riddle intrigued with me.

"Questioning the purity of Merlin's descendant's blood? How courteous of you, Selwyn." I replied with a pout before taking a sip of my water. Her eyes widened as she regarded me with utter bewilderment, and I watched satisfied as Riddle's eyes darkened as he looked at me. I knew he wanted to know more, the desire for knowledge in him was loud, and I knew right at that moment I became a puzzle for him to solve.

Walburga next to me choked on her pumpkin juice before she turned to me. "Merlin's heir? I have to introduce you to my parents at once! Such purity and powerful lineage are very rare these days."
