(Don't play the song yet!)

Jane Andrews felt perfectly happy. She and Charlie were waltzing around the room. Everyone else was slow dancing, so they looked pretty strange, but whatever.

"This is fun." She grinned up at him.

"Yeah," Said Charlie, smiling back. "We're great dancers."

"Better than everyone else here." She said sarcastically.

He laughed. Jane hadn't realised how much she'd grown to love the sound of his laugh.

It felt like they were floating, although she knew they were really stepping on the solid wooden floor. It was amazing how he made her feel so surreal and yet grounded at the same time.

The song ended far too soon, but the dreamy atmosphere remained. It felt as though echoes of the music were still hanging in the air.

"D-do you, uhh..." Charlie stumbled over his words, still lost in her eyes.

"What?" Jane smiled encouragingly.

"Do you want a drink?" He managed to say normally.

"Sure." She shrugged in amusement.

"Great, I'll go get some then." He spun around awkwardly and walked away.

Jane laughed and shook her head.

'What a cute dork.'

She sighed pleasantly.

Then someone bumped into her, and she realised she was still standing in the middle of the dance floor. She walked over to the wooden steps on the side and sat down, waiting for Charlie.

There was such a large pile of balloons next to her, that the group of teens on the other side of it didn't realise she could hear their conversation

There was such a large pile of balloons next to her, that the group of teens on the other side of it didn't realise she could hear their conversation. Jane was bored, so she decided to eavesdrop.

"Did you hear about that guy who decided to bring two dates?" A male voice said.

"Oh please, someone does that every year." A girl said. Jane recognised her from her math class.

"Charles, or something?" Someone else said.

   (Play the song now!)

"Yeah, Charlie Sloane." The boy laughed. "Said he couldn't pick which one to go with, so he asked them both and now he's trying to keep it a secret from them."
