Chapter 90: Familial Truth

Start from the beginning

But apparently not. Ebony looks over to her husband who's dark eyes are regarding his eldest son with an indecipherable expression that has me guessing what's happening between them. Is he telling Malachai privately or just looking at him without words? Rosa strains her sight, her eyes narrowed in concentration like someone observing the fine details of a painting, but she eventually rents and shakes her head to me with the smallest motion possible. What was going on? I think before my father speaks.

"You are a hybrid like the rest of your siblings but you are half-demon half-vampire." My eldest brother's face morphs into an expression that looks to be a cross between a frown and a scowl. "I am your biological parent but she isn't your mother. Your mother is Aradia. One of the High Demons of Hell." That surprises me until my father elaborates. "It is your capacity for cruelty and deception that she gave you along with the vampire benefits from me."

Shock descends on the room and, even from the distance between us, I can see Malachai's visibly shaken by what my father had to say. Next to him, I see Morana and Raphael giving each other puzzled looks as well as frightened glances in the direction of our parents. "What about the rest of us?" Raphael is next to speak and it's only through years of knowing my brother that I can detect the fear in his tone since it's so well hidden. "Are we all like that? All hybrids?"

Our father nods, looking his second eldest directly in the eye. "You are perhaps the most curious of all your siblings." Raphael frowns from where he's still standing with the others, including a now visibly shaken Morana. "See you're DNA is exactly half vampire and half human yet you are not a half-blood but merely a Pureblood with added human DNA." Holy hell. Now there's something I never thought I'd hear. Raphael's gone pale under the light and I don't blame him. But how was it possible? I think and I see my father look towards me with a small, sly smile that sends shivers down my spine. "Magic. That's how it's possible."

I see Selene sharing a worried look with me and Ash, her mind made up about when she was to ask. "What about me father?" My sister asks, looking at her siblings in a circle. "I know I'm an Elemental, Hunter's partner guessed as much when she tapped my arm earlier, but whose daughter am I? Why didn't I know before?"

Azrael looks around at us all with a slight smile on his face. "You are also my daughter by blood being the oldest. But I don't remember who your mother was. Some powerful witch from a coven that Hunter's future fiance doesn't belong to but is still powerful. I think it is one of the most powerful covens. Maybe the phoenix coven." I hear Eris intake a breath then and want to curse my father for bringing it up. Rosa looks at me and then to Eris who's gone an ashen white under her fiery mane of hair, golden eyes haunted. What happened to Eris? She mouths and I signal that I'll tell her later, my eyes drawn again to the revelations occurring in the room.

"And...and me?" Morana sounds like she's standing miles down a long dark tunnel, her weak voice echoing the same way it would in that situation. Sneaking a look at her I see that she's paler than Raphael and Malachai, her eyes wide with fear and panic. "What am I? Am I like one of the others or different still?"

"Different still," My mother answers this time and I see Morana look partially relaxed at the knowledge and partially more afraid than before. "See you are half-vampire like the rest of your siblings but for your separate hybrid half, you are a Faerie, Morana. A faerie of the Summer Court." A shocked inhale of breath sounds from the vicinity of my sister and I don't blame her. "I don't remember who your father was but I only know she was part of the Summer Court and in a position of power. I am still your mother. But Azrael is not your biological parent - the same for Hunter and Asher"

Ash narrows his eyes in the direction of our mother. "Then what am I mother? Can you tell me that now or does the fact that I had to find out on my own solve that problem for you?" My brother's tone is sharp like a silver blade and just as deadly. "What am I?"
