Rosalia's POV:
After Ash identified Heidi's alluded to sign as the double Oruroboros over the next few weeks I hear that the same symbol had appeared on the doors of other powerful covens, wolf packs and across the supernatural realms. Both well known and otherwise. Although I had yet to hear if the Ladouceur palace had received such an ominous message. A detail that had me guessing as to the origins of the signs as well as who was spreading them. Who was warning of the impending war?
"Reckon the Triskelion received one?" Chalice asks one night, swirling the last of her whisky around the bottom of a glass. "Or do you reckon they're like the Ladouceur's and are 'sans sign'" She mutters, air quoting her poor french in a last-ditch attempt to make me smile. Ash walks behind me, glass in hand as if to offer it to me but instead I pull the bottle out of his other hand with a beatific smile in response.
"I meant for you to take the glass," Ash groans, seeing me tip the whisky bottle to my lips and take a long drink. Refusing to remove my smile I take another long drink. "Seriously Rosa, that was meant for everyone." A faintly condescending tone that should have made me groan but instead I choose to drink again. "To share." He spins the glass in his hands and I giggle softly behind my hands.
"I need it more than you do," I comment, countering whatever he was about to say. He groans and chooses to drop this particular thread of conversation by choosing to return to what Chalice had said. He says something to her but I just sit and swirl the whisky around in the bottle, watching the orangish-brown liquor spin in circles until something he says snags my attention.
"I don't know if my parents had received a sign but I'm sure that if they did they wouldn't have broadcasted it to anyone else. Even the Council." At the word Council my ears prick up and he sees my reaction before releasing a long breath. "The Supernatural Council should have been notified if Laurel's little covert rebellion is becoming more publicly known," Although I thought he lacked the conviction I know he's trying to tell himself. "Even if she's been working with my parent's to try and find those accursed jewels and keys to do whatever they do."
"Maybe they kill her," Chalice replies, hope evident in her tone as she drains her glass before reaching blindly for a bottle behind her. Over her shoulder, at the opposite side of the room, I can see the flames are still flickering in the fireplace, altered by my magic and tears to look a deep glacial sea blue tinged with a delicate edging of a white like pure snow or frost. "Maybe they kill her and all other corrupt individuals so we can make it better?" I look over at my friend, the muted light catching on her golden hair to make highlights of an icy blonde colour that contrasts with her normal golden colour. Swirling her new drink around in her glass. Ash makes a disbelieving noise and Chalice's hands raised above her head. "Sorry, just saying."
"No," I hold up a hand to stop her apology, hearing her fall silent and continue to think. "No, maybe there is some veracity to your claims." Ash groans again and I drop my hand, turning to face my friend and his obvious scepticism. "Has anyone ever seen what happened when these keys and jewels are used for their mystery purpose that Laurel and her coven had alluded to in that forest meeting? He shakes his head. "Therefore Chalice's suggestion could be valid then?" I propose, trying to tempt him to see that we could be right. "She could be right," I ease back against where I was sitting and take another swig, eyes on Ash.
