"Hey Caela."
"Hey dumbass I brought breakfast."
"Come in"Alec moved away from the door offering the person space.
"It smells like coffee"A boy stated walking in with a smile.
He wore a pair of black sunglasses. He was slim and an average height. He had tousled dirty blonde hair. He was wearing a grey sweater, black ripped jeans, and black converse.
The girl next to him was slim and tall. She was dark skinned and her hair was styled into long butterfly locs. A burnt orange bishop sleeved crop top, light mom jeans, and burnt orange wedges adorned her figure. She smiled at me.
"Who's this?"She asked.
"Emma this is Caela and Princeten."
"We go to school together"Princeten said sitting down as Alec went to the coffee maker.
"I've never seen you around"I answered truthfully.
"Yeah I've never seen you around either"Ten said. Then he burst out laughing.
"Ten you're so annoying"Caela scoffed slapping his shoulder and sitting down next to him. She sat the giant bag of food at the center of the table.
"That was a joke. I'm blind"Ten said. "That's why you never see me. I'm in a special class as they like to call it. Your brother and Wesley are somewhat friends of mine. They visit me sometimes to skip class or walk me around the halls if needed."
"Oh I'm sorry."
"Sorry that I'm blind?"
"Sorry that you know Wesley and Brandon"I said. Ten burst into instant laughter.
"That was good. I like you Emma"Ten laughed. Caela smiled fondly at Ten.
"Coffee"Alec said setting the cup in Ten's hand.
"Thank you"Ten smiled.
"We'll I've brought donuts, breakfast burritos, and some homemade fruit cups from my dad."
"Have I ever told you how amazing you are?"Alec smiled.
"Hm I know"She smiled brightly. She looked at me and smiled. "My dad owns his own restaurant. He's a great chef."
"You have a dad that's cool...can't relate"I said. Ten was the first to laugh as I followed. Caela froze in place. "I was joking too. It's okay to laugh."
"Man you are good. Dark humor as a coping mechanism classic"Ten laughed.
"I have my moments"I smiled.
"No that's so wrong"Caela frowned while trying not to laugh.
"You're both idiots"Alec said taking the boxes out of the bag.
We started laughing.
"Okay so you're Alec's, brothers, best friends, sister?"Caela asked.
"Correct."
"So what are you doing here?"Ten asked. "Three hours from home?"
"Well as it turns out. I got drunk and refused to go home so Alec just brought me here."
"Classic Alec always taking care of the drunk people"Caela laughed.
"What about you Ten?"
"I usually spend the weekends with Caela or Alec. Sometimes they are close to us and sometimes they're here so it just depends."
"If they both live here and you live back home how did all of you meet?"
"Wesley and I used to be in wrestling together. Alec and I met at a wrestling match and hung out from time to time. We'd play soccer every weekend with some other friends of our. When I had my accident Caela's mom became my caretaker and we grew close like siblings. They moved when Marcus started his business. Caela and Alec have been friends since high school which is how Caela's mom got the job. So we all kinda just intermingled. Even if I am younger it never really mattered."
"What about you Emma. How did you and Alec meet?"Caela asked. I looked at Alec who looked at me like he wanted me to answer. Like he was waiting on something.
"Wesley's parents house....he pushed me in a swimming pool"I said as Caela looked at Alec in question.
"Although that's hilarious, sorry Emma, why?"Ten asked.
"Yeah that was my question too but all he had to say was it amused him."
"It amused you?"Caela scoffed. Alec shrugged and leaned forward.
"I'm hungry let's dig in before the food gets cold"He said. He was so aloof.
"You don't have to tell me twice!"Ten said. I grabbed a breakfast burrito. I took a bite and it tasted like heaven.
"Wow"I said. The only word that I could speak.
"I know right. My dad makes them homemade. Just like everything else here."
"You're dad must be rich because this is amazing"I said. "Tell him he's amazing."
"I'll be sure to pass the word on"Caela giggled.
"Nah you haven't lived until you've had a bowl of Caela's dads homemade macaroni."
"I agree"Alec said.
"To much cheese"Caela shook her head.
"No way you can never have too much cheese!"Ten argued. "It's his ten cheese recipe. Layers of cheesy goodness and it's named after me? Chefs kiss!"
I giggled at Ten who smiled proudly. Caela shook her head and smiled.
"So what's your guys' plans for today?"Caela asked.
"Probably just gonna stay in and watch a movie"Alec shrugged. "What about you guys?"
"Date"Ten said.
"I met this girl in robotics and she has a younger cousin. So we're going out on a double date."
"Couldn't hurt. Surrounded by three beautiful women. Lucky me"Ten smiled.
"Shut up"Caela nudged him while smiling. Ten chuckled as I smiled at their sibling like exchange.
These three seemed so fond of each other. Like they knew everything about each other. Alec was different around them. To me he was an enigma. A puzzle without a picture to reference. I couldn't understand him. Would it have mattered if I did?
Why was he so familiar? Why did he come into my life? What purpose did he serve?
