Chapter 12

                                    

                                          
Val's POV
                          
I opted out of preparing for the trial with Alec and Izzy. 
                          
"Val you're gonna wear out the floor." Lucy said from her seat on my bed.
                          
"I don't care. I told your brother the Cup wouldn't save me." I said, continuing with my pacing. 
                          
"There's gotta be a way to keep you from getting de-runed, Val. You're my parabatai." Lucy whispered.
                          
"And there is." I looked over at the door and saw the Inquisitor with Lydia and Elijah with her. "I will have the charges dropped immediately if you help me get Valentine Morgenstern."
                          
I scoffed. "Why would I help you? You're the one who gave the order for my arrest."
                          
"I thought it would get your father's attention. I admit I could've lured him out another way, I thought you were my best bet." The Inquisitor said. "I don't want to be the reason that Lucinda loses her parabatai." She adds, glancing at my parabatai.
                          
"I can't help you." I insist. "I don't know where he is and I haven't heard from him at all. Like everyone else I believed him dead. And trust me when I say this the bastard is as good as dead when I see him."
                          
"You'd kill the man who raised you?" She asked.
                          
"Michael Wayland raised me until his death. Then the Lightwoods took Jace and I in. That bastard is not my father." I seethed, balling my hands into fists. "My father died when I was 11 years old right in front of me and Jace. And his bitch of a wife if she ever wakes up better stay out of my sight." I add turning away from the Inquisitor. "Go through with the trial. I don't care anymore." I hear the door click shut and I turn to face Lucy. "Get Magnus to represent me. If I go out I wanna do it on my terms."
                          
Lucy nods and quickly exits my room. I lean against the wall before sliding down it. I pulled my knees to my chest and wrapped my arms around them in an effort to hold myself together.
                          
Lucy's POV
                          
I knocked on Magnus's door about an hour after leaving my broken parabatai in her room. When he opened the door he let me in quickly. 
                          
"Both Lightwood twins in a matter of five minutes." Magnus stated. "What do I owe this visit?" He asked.
                          
"Val. Imogen Herondale arrested her in hopes of getting Valentine." I replied ignoring my twin. "She wants you to represent her. She had a chance to get out of it by helping Imogen find Valentine but she turned it down."
                          
"She what?" Alec questioned.
                          
"Why would she do that?" Magnus asked.
                          
"I don't know." I replied. "Valkyrie was always somewhat difficult. She knew the second that Imogen had the Branwell's arrest her that the Cup wouldn't save her. She doesn't know where her biological father is. I guess she thought she could show Imogen that she wasn't like him. Valkyrie flinched when they used the name Morgenstern when they arrested her. I thought she would attack the Inquisitor when she referred to Valentine as her father." I took a deep breath. "I can't lose my parabatai. She's lost so much. Jocelyn abandoned her, because she didn't want another child to be tainted by Valentine. Valentine who knows what he did to her before Michael got her. She's lost so much as she discovered it."
                          
"She could've gotten herself out of the trial though." Alec stated.
                          
"She told Imogen that if she saw Valentine he was as good as dead." I told Alec. 
                          
"Imogen Herondale lost everything when her son and his wife were killed. She blames Valentine." Magnus said. "Valentine has cost many people their families but I still don't get why she would arrest Valkyrie."
