"So, the famed Rex Lapis is a hobo?" I elbowed him as we walked back home. The news was honestly quite hilarious if you think about it. As the creator of Mora, you would think that he would be the richest in Liyue.
"..." Zhongli did not answer and seemed a bit bashful at my teasing.
"No need to be shy..." I giggled as he continued to ignore me. "I don't mind since you being rich or not doesn't matter to me. What matters is you." I held his hand up, my fingers entangled with his.
"I..." He was a bit surprised at how bold I was. "May I kiss you?" He stops in his tracks, staring at me lovingly. I blushed at his sudden request and looked away.
"U-Uh..." My mind was a mess as he took my hand and gently pecked my knuckles. The sight was alluring and I could hardly even blink. "Yes..." I gave in to his silently pleading eyes. He smiles before brushing his nose against mine. Slowly but surely, he captures my lips in his perfectly.
I melted under his warmth and when he let go, he wrapped his arms around my legs and waist, carrying me up. I yelped and wrapped my arms around his neck for support.
"Put me down!" My face was on the verge of erupting as he continued to walk the way home. Some civilians chuckle at us while others blush at the sight.
"Surely not, dear." He chuckles at my complaints.
"Why are you making it sound like we are a married couple...?" I pout.
"We were."
"...huh?" I was shaken by his response. I have no recollection whatsoever of the past but somehow I have a feeling that he is telling the truth. Well, why would he lie in the first place?
"Us? Husband and wife? Rex Lapis and his Adeptus?" With wide eyes, I probed him to tell me more. He sweats as my finger continuously pokes his cheek for an answer.
"Yes...now stop that." He eyes my finger. With a cheeky grin, I stopped poking him and we finally arrived at our house. "Can I get down now?"
"No." He simply states and walks inside our home. He carries me to the bed and finally puts me down.
"What was the point of that?" I mumbled as he took off his coat. I will have to get used to this every day, him taking off his clothes one by one. I blushed at the thought and buried my face in a pillow.
"You're going to suffocate yourself." He laughs at my rosy cheeks when I slightly peeked at him from the pillow.
"By the way, can I visit you when you're working?" I stared at him in interest. "Unless...you want me to be with Childe again."
I hit the bullseye. His expression suddenly turned dark at the mention of the ginger. It sent chills down my spine.
"You can visit, I suppose." He sighs and I silently cheered for myself. "You can come with me tomorrow. I'll wake you up early."
"Very well then. Good night!" I rolled further into the bed so he can have half the space next to me.
-
"Wake up...Y/n." I felt pain on my meaty cheek and opened my eyes in a daze. Before me was Zhongli, who was smiling in amusement as he pinched my soft skin like a child.
"Hmm?" I slowly got up, rubbing my red cheek. "What a way to wake someone up," I grumbled and he laughed before caressing my cheek.
"Feel any better?" He then leans forward and before I could push him away, he kisses my cheek lightly. It was an odd sensation, to wake up and be kissed by your one and only master.
"Ah, what is this? I suddenly feel ten times worse." I joked before getting ready to accompany him to work.
We then arrived at a mediocre-sized building. I read the nameplate slowly, "Wangsheng...Funeral Parlor?! Now, this is certainly-"
"BOO!"
I jumped as a girl shorter than me hopped out the corner of the entrance with crazed red eyes. She then pouts when Zhongli stood there, his arms crossed with a disappointed expression.
"Ugh...six-hundred sixty-sixth time yet the devil's number can't even faze you! You are truly...a worthy opponent!" The girl laughs proudly as she smacks the man's back. Zhongli slightly coughs before looking at me, as if trying to say 'See? This is why I didn't want you to come.'
In the end, I followed him anyway and even bumped into a cute girl as a reward!
"Hm? You brought a new worker too? Quite the catch," she smirks, placing a hand at her hip. She eyes me up and down, nodding in approval. "Hired."
"Wait- what?" I spluttered and Zhongli grabs my hand before the girl could pull me away.
"She is not a recruit. She is my wife." He tries to pull me to him but the girl's grip was as strong as his. A light blush blossomed my cheeks at what he declared.
"Oh? Your wife? Can't believe a man as bland as you actually has such a pretty woman as your wife." She snickers, never letting go of my arm. This is the beginning of a tug-of-war. How chaotic!
"Regardless, she isn't going to work here." Zhongli glares at the girl. The moment these two were together, I felt the animosity Zhongli had towards her but to think that it can get even worse than before...
"Well, in the end, it's her choice. Would you like to work here? It's not a bad offer since you get to see your husband every day- though I don't see any fun being with him at all." She releases me, a playful smile on her lips.
"Y/n...!" Zhongli looks at me but then the girl cuts in.
"Now now, don't go threatening her or anything of that sort..." She holds my hand protectively. To think that a girl I just met would be by my side warms my heart.
"I want to work here." I accepted her offer and she beams at my response.
"Great! I'm Hu Tao by the way! Also your boss from now on," she winks.
"You own this place?!" I gaped at her small build and she nods.
"I am more capable than you think. Anyway, shall we start with work now?" She giggles and pushes me inside a room. I glanced at Zhongli's anxious eyes but gave him a little wave, signaling that I was fine.
How bad could such a cute girl be?
