CLEMMY
The first loud sound I thought I was just hearing in my dreams, but then a few seconds later I heard another huge crash, and then the security system started going off. The alarm began blaring and one final crash happened before I was up out of bed. I haven’t moved so quickly in my life. I jumped out of bed and ran directly into Vivienne’s room. Sure enough, she was awoken because of the sounds and was screaming in her bed.
‘Shh, shh, I’m right here, Vivienne, are you okay? Did anything hurt you?” I pull off her blanket, trying to see if she is hurt in any way. I look around and everything looks normal in her room. The security system stopped blaring and I realized that Robbie must have turned it off.
“Mommy, I’m scared!” Vivi says through her tears. I hold her close to my chest. Robbie’s heavy footsteps come running down the hallway and he rushes into Vivi’s room.
“Clem? Honey, you okay?” He tucks what looks like a firearm into the back of his jeans and kneels down in front of the bed. “Hi baby, it’s just me, Daddy, are you hurt at all?” He does the same thing that I did, searching her body to make sure she wasn’t hurt, even though I had already done it. He then takes a look at me and starts to do the same thing.
“I’m fine, I’m not hurt.” I put my hand on his chest to gently push him away. “What happened? Are you okay?” I was throwing questions out faster than they could be answered. I knew that staying calm was the best bet for Vivienne, but I couldn’t deny my own fear in the situation.
“Somebody threw bricks through a few of the windows in the front room.”
“What?” I yell and begin to stand up, but Robbie pulls me back down onto the bed. I wrap my arm back around Vivienne and rest my head on Robbie’s shoulder. “You’re okay?”
I feel his lips press against the top of my head and he pulls the two of us closer to his body. “I’m fine. I didn’t see anybody on the property, so I’m pretty certain they’re gone. The police are going to be on their way since the alarm went off though.”
“Yeah, of course. I should probably call my dad.”
He laughs and kisses my head again, “If I know your dad the way I think I do, he probably will get here before the cops.”
It wasn’t really a laughing situation, but I couldn’t deny that he was probably right. I’m sure that Granger’s system notified him of the breach and he probably called my dad. In fact, if I was in my room where my phone is, it is probably going off non-stop. “Hey Vivi, baby, let’s get you into mommy’s room, okay?”
She squeezes around my waist tighter, “No, Mommy, I don’t want to go anywhere else, I’m scared.”
“I know you are sweetheart, but I need to get my phone and make sure Grandpa Mitch knows we’re both safe. I’ll be with you the entire time.”
“Hey, Vivi, look at me, Princess.” Vivienne slowly looks up at Robbie. He ever so gently speaks to her. “You’re being so brave and I’m so proud of you. Will you let me pick you up and take you into Mommy’s bedroom?”
She nods her head yes, wrapping her arms around Robbie’s body like a koala on a big tree. He lifts her up with no problem and I follow them back into my bedroom. I remembered to grab her blanket and favorite stuffed animal, hoping to give her some sort of security. Robbie sits down on my bed, but Vivi doesn’t budge. He doesn’t seem to mind holding her, so I grab my phone and sure enough I have four missed phone calls, the last one from my dad. I call him back first, since he is probably freaking out the most.
