The official statement goes something like this:

One evening in Kamino Ward, citizens and pro heroes alike an influx of shockwaves occuring in the nearby area. Most of them chalked it up to being an earthquake at first, but upon seeing a blast of pressurized air knocking a building down into rubble, some of the citizens began to expect that wasn’t the case. As it turns out, the source of the shockwaves was an anonymous villain, who was currently in the middle of an altercation with several vigilantes.

Any “official” documents conveniently overlooked a seemingly unrelated Nomu swarm incident occurring in another location around the same time.

The skirmish between the villain and the vigilantes eventually got so fierce that the villain began causing massive amounts of collateral damage, Nearby citizens on the outskirts of the battle immediately ran for cover while others began calling in the heroes. Anyone who later stumbled upon the scene was unable to get close enough to see what was actually going on, either because they couldn’t follow the fight, or a shockwave blew them back.

Instead of getting close to the source, most of the nearby heroes ended up helping citizens evacuate from the rubble and the city.

All in all, the catastrophe was relatively short. No one knew exactly what had happened during the attack, but what they did know was that All Might and an elite team of Pro Heroes and police stormed the battle scene, and those who were still present could only see that All Might had taken care of the villain, raising his fist triumphantly in victory as the crowds cheered him on. When the story hits the news several days later, it basically regurgitates the official record, if people hadn’t seen the live action feed days before.

What sets off the nation is a minor blurb that the media did not know would have such a profound effect at the time.

Vigilante Lost Cause Announced Dead

Most of the people in Japan don’t get past the title. The few who do are quick to spread their findings anywhere possible. The feedback is small at first. Those that weren’t brave enough to read the article are quick to flock to the brief synopses, the in-depth analyses of the final fight, or anything else they can get their hands on. When the shock begins to settle in, that wave becomes a torrent . Dozens of post all over social media flood the internet, and the news outlets scramble to catch up. Some post are sorrowful, some wish luck for the vigilante in the afterlife, and there’s a good amount of people angry with the media for downplaying the arguable hero’s death.

It isn’t long before #morethanalostcause becomes a thing.

A major event connecting all of Japan coast to coast on this scale hasn’t happened since All Might’s debut. Both the surface world and the underground a spurned by this unexpected development. Those who are foolish immediately try to capitalize on the tragedy the event brings… only to be slapped swift and hard by a sudden dose of reality. The people are grieving… but those in the shadows forgot that with grief, comes rage. Everyone is restless with steam to blow off, and to see a group of low lives try to defile their peace so suddenly?

No one is having it.

The phenomenon lasts for an impressive amount of time, and even when it’s “over,” the effects linger. Pros above and underground, police, even citizens, are more vigilant than ever. Crime manages to decrease by a small margin, but it is a decrease all the same. People start wearing Lost Cause’s iconic face mask as a sign of remembrance. A small shrine in Musutafu Park is built, a makeshift tombstone where the arguable hero is laid to rest.

Eventually, the people find peace, one way or another.

“ Izuku… we need to talk. ”

Shoto is alone, confining his suffering to his room. Dad’s out on patrol, and Fuyumi knows that he doesn’t want to be bothered, even if both of them want her to. Ever since Shoto got the news, he’s been nearly catatonic. Every time Fuyumi’s managed to catch a glimpse of Shoto, his eyes are always distant, staring at his left hand. Every now and then, he’ll have a little flame dancing in his palm, staring at it with a sad smile. Fuyumi sighs in dismay, using her quirk to cool down the soba she made for dinner.
