"Claire! (Y/n)!" Toby shouted from the gymnasium. "He's in here!" I entered after Claire to see Jim make his escape.
"Jim, wait!" I called.
"Don't you get it?!" He snarled. "I'm not Jim anymore! Go away!" The half-troll leaped out through a high window.
"He's going to the roof!" Toby cried. I looked over to see Claire extend her staff.
"Let me go first," I commanded. "I need to." The girl nodded, allowing me to go through her portal leading to the roof. I was swallowed by the shadow realm.
"Jim?" I asked as soon as my feet hit the ground.
"(Y/n).." I heard him say softly. "Please go.. I'm not the person you want me to be."
"You hear me now, James Lake." The boy peered out from his hiding place. "You might look different now, but you're still the same guy I came to love.. so much." Tears began to sting my eyes. "Letting you go was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. But if you want me to go... I'll go." I stood for a full minute watching Jim, staring at the ground, unmoving. "Fine." I finally said.
"(Y/n)." I ignored the boy, walking to the edge of the roof. "(Y/n)...?"
"I love you." Those were the only words that escaped my mouth. "Don't you think for one second that I don't."
"I love you too, Jimbo," Toby panted, making his way onto the roof. "But let's talk on the ground.. I'm just a tiny bit tired of running after you." Claire portaled herself up as well.
"I understand what you're going through. You're not Jim anymore," she said. "But it doesn't mean we care any less."
"Yeah, man!" Toby cut in, "I just climbed three stories for you!" There was a pause. "Your old life may be over, but that doesn't mean we can't be a part of your new one!" Strickler and Barbara burst through the door from the inside.
"Jim.." His mother took a step towards him.
"I can't be in your world anymore. I can't be in daylight!" Jim backed away. "I can't eat dinner!"
"But you can let us help you," Barbara tried to comfort him. The half-troll only increased his distance. Unbeknownst to him, Blinky rose from the side of the building. I had to fight myself to keep from laughing at the way he entered the frame.
Probably Aaarrrgghh lifting him..
"Master Jim," Binky spoke, startling Jim. "Where are you going in such a hurry?" The four-armed troll came forward in an intimidating manner, studying the Trollhunter. "Hmm.. there seems to be something different about you," he continued sarcastically. "Why, with a few more eyes and a few more arms, we could be related!"
"Troll brother," Aaarrrgghh happily suggested, trying to get up onto the roof.
"What am I, Blinky?" Jim inquired.
"When I gaze upon you, do you know what I see?" Jim shook his head. "I see a champion.. A friend... A son." Jim's eyes flew to meet Blinky's. "A magnificent son.." He pulled the trollhunter into a long hug.
"I'm scared.." Jim whispered.
"Goodness gracious, who isn't?" Blinky asked softly.
"Hey. Think of it this way: You're like a nougat nummy." Toby ran up to the two.
"A what?" Jim laughed.
"Now's not the time for snacks, Tobes." I raised an eyebrow.
"No.. You know, a sweet, velvety nougat mixed with a crunchy chocolate cookie crumble!" Toby began explaining. "You're one part best friend, one part new friend.. Troll Jimbo!" I walked over and cradled Jim's face in my hand. The boy leaned down and hugged Toby and me.
"Splendid," Merlin appeared.
"Excuse me, what?" I growled.
"Team Trollhunter is back together. I knew you would all figure it out." I lunged at the wizard, wanting to punch him in the face. Jim grabbed me, holding me back. Merlin looked me up and down before continuing. "This has been rather heartwarming, but unless you plan to hug Gunmar to death, I advise we make ready, because, as you say these days, the fight is on."
