I woke up in the smell of roses. Like freshly bloomed buds in spring. The room is dark and the only source of light is the small candle right by the bedside table. It is placed on top of a ceramic pot designed in the likeness of a lotus flower in full bloom. I stood up and got myself ready for a warm bath.
I picked a silky dress that ends right on my knees that has slim white ribbons as straps, its colour a gradient of flush pink and white. I also decided to wear silver heels to match my outfit. Choosing outfits for the day have always calmed my mind. It was this part of modelling that I loved the most. The art of bringing life and beauty to whatever I wore.
I was fixing my hair when Aiken emerged into the room. All smiles and prepped up. He wore a leather and fur, dyed in the colours of white and grey.
"You're dolled up." He says inspecting my dress with his intense eyes. My cheeks reddened at his stare. I remained my eyes on him, not quite processing that he's here. Right in front of me. Standing right in front of me.
"Can I have a hug now? Yung walang sapak sana" He said, his arms stretched out for a hug. I laughed, tears streaming down my face and hugged him tight, letting his arms envelop my body. He smelled of roses and mint.
All composure and calmness broke down and I feel an overwhelming relief seeped right through my mind. He's here now. No one can hurt me when he's here. I think over and over again.
"I missed you." I say and wiped my tears dry. There are so many things I badly I want to say to him but I couldn't bring myself to say it.
They want to kill me. They tried to, twice. I am scared. I am so damn afraid to die in here, in this Kingdom, in this country. I am so damn afraid to die knowing that you'll be left alone feeling guilty about my sudden death. And I am afraid that anger would consume the kindness in your heart.
"Hearing those words from you makes me feel like I've won a tourney. Can you feel the rapid beating of my heart Vie?" He held my hand and placed it right on top of his chest. A soft laughter escaped my lips when I did hear it. "That's because of you. Damn you're making me so damn whipped for you."
"Baka atakihin ka niyan." I joked, my eyes still filled with tears. His smile widened and he planted a soft kiss on my forehead.
It has been only days since we last met and the threats didn't make it any easier for me. Night and Vesna have been taking shifts sa tuwing natutulog ako dahil takot sila na baka may pumasok dito at saktan ako. Much worse, kill me.
"Walang bawian yan ah. Ikaw na nagsabi na miss mo ako"
"Oo nga gago 'to" I punched his shoulder lightly. Miss kita at hinding hindi ako aalis. It's too late for me to take a step back now. I've already fallen for him. I don't want this to end. He placed his arms right by my shoulder and together we walked towards the kitchen for breakfast.
Night was setting up the table by the time we arrived, he glanced up and smiled when he saw us. "Buti umuwi ka. Hindi 'yan mapakali dito. Miss na miss ka raw" I rolled my eyes when both of them laughed. Men.
"Shut up, Night." He pointed at me using his thumb and said,
"Tignan mo, hindi niya dinedeny no." I swatted his hand away and glared at him. Naku talaga. Hindi ako mapakali dahil natatakot ako na baka may kung sino nalang na dadating at patayin ako. Gago 'to.
"Breakfast na. Ang aga aga ang ingay mo" Vesna came in from the back door and pinched Night's ears. "Welcome back, our Prince." She said, remembering her courtesies with the Prince. Aiken smiled and said,
