"How long till you get yourself fired? I'm bored!" Doppio asked you over the phone while you slouched on the chair lazily, deliberately trying to get people to scowl at your irresponsible actions behind the receptionist desk.
"Don't ask me, I've been trying to get the geezer to look at me but he's just not noticing." you scoffed at the other workers who were now staring at you completely bewildered as you ignored your duties.
~~~
After the incident with Antoine Chevalier, Doppio was begged by the manager of the hotel not to tell anyone of it or he'd lose his job as it was a failure on his part to not have recognized him as a criminal. You and Doppio weren't really happy about it, but with an investigation at hand that had to stay away from the police radar at all costs, leaving it the way it is was the better option.
The very next day the vacancy for the receptionist's post was announced. You made sure to prepare well to make it a point that this job came to you.
And by preparing well, you meant using the manager's fear to your advantage. Let's just say you weren't really prepared for it. Things just happened to fall into place for you.
"I'm sorry Miss Y/n, but you do not have the required experience. I'm afraid we will have to reject you." The manager with the wavy silver lines of hair on his already bald head said sweetly, the drop of belligerent very neatly audible to you.
You shifted yourself on the chair to a leaning position, now more relaxed, eyes half-lidded in confidence.
"I heard a rumour about a certain criminal last night."
The man was beyond frightened when he heard you say that and immediately gave you the job. You were even surprised when he didn't even ask you for proof. What if you were lying?
The first two days you were asked to do night shifts, which you did, while Doppio accompanied you through the phone, sitting at peace in the comfort of Rafael's hospitality. You managed to find your desired data in the first night shift itself, copying everything down from the computer into a flash drive, a new little thing in the tech department that just recently launched into the markets. Now all that was left was to get rid of the job without anyone raising a suspicious eye on your sudden arrival and even sudden departure. Just be bad at your work and get fired. Easy as that!
That was what you thought until you had been there for 5 days and you found yourself on the edge of boredom and frustration. You kept doing a sloppy job of maintaining guest records, slacked off during duty hours, talked back to guests, maintained bad desk hygiene, among many other things, but the manager just didn't want to let you go. The only thing he would do was to warn you and ignore it. May be telling him that you knew of the hotel's secret had backfired.
And so here you were, still deliberately slacking off, deliberately being disrespectful to customers, deliberately ignoring your job.
"You know what, I'm just quitting!" You exasperated over the call to Doppio.
"Ah, Y/n are you s-
"Are you going to ask me to stay in this boring shithole too? Not even you can stop me!" Yep, you were close yo losing it.
The manager begged you to stay, telling you that he'll do something to increase your pay and get you more breaks and day-offs. You explained to him that you didn't care for it and just wanted to quit, but he wouldn't listen. What a strange scene it was - a manager begging his lowly subordinate to stay on the job, offering them better pay, while the employee just wanted their boss to get them fired. If only it was this easy for the nine-to-five-ers....
