Talon kept his word and was out of the house before dawn. I bolted down stairs to be sure, power was restored and I could hear my mom moving in the kitchen. Talon managed to leave no trace of himself.
Stepping in the living room, my pillow and blanket was folded neatly on the couch.
Releasing a heavy sigh of relief, I made my way into the kitchen. Mom's brown nearly black hair was pulled into a messy bun that sat on the top of her head.
"Were you guys alright last night? Sorry I couldn't make it home sooner" Her slender arms pulling me into a tight hug as I entered the kitchen.
Letting her body go as I plopped down at the kitchen table. Rubbing my temples with fingers. Smiling softly as she sat a cup of coffee beside me, taking the chair beside me as she sipped her own cup.
"We were fine, Sam hated not being able to use internet" Smirking into my favorite mug. The hot liquid making my taste buds burn with glee.
"You said something on the phone about a friend? Did they get home safe? Was it Elena?" She asked thoughtfully.
Coughing into my cup softly, wiping my lip as I tried to think of an excuse. I hated to lie, but if she knew I had a strange man sleeping on our couch she'd lose it.
"New kid in my classes had car troubles. Didn't want us to get stuck in the storm so I brought him here for a couple hours. He left once the worst of the storm was over" Which was mostly the truth. Keeping my eyes away from her matching blue eyes.
Lifting her brows hearing 'him, tilting her head slightly as I forced my expression to remain neutral. "What's his name? Cute? A gentleman? Does he work?" Rattling off questions faster than I could reply.
Shit.
"He uh, he's alright looking" That was the understatement of the century. He looked like a statue stolen right from Greece. "Like I said, he's new. And not from here. Don't know too much about him. Didn't want him to have him wait in his car freezing to death" Mostly true.
"Well I'm just happy you made it home safely. Power is still out across the city. Sam will get to sleep in and have the rest of the week off. They don't think the high school will get their power back until next week"
Sam, would Same mention Talon? He'll probably sleep most of the day and mom would be at work by the time he wakes up. He wouldn't be able to tell her much. Hopefully he doesn't mention anything about Talon spending the night.
"Know anything about the college?" Changing the subject quickly. Also while praying the power was out.
"I saw the lights of around the buildings on when I drove home a few hours ago"
"Damn" Grumbling into my mug.
"Thank you for helping so much Angel" Placing her warm hand on my arm with a sad smile. "I'm sure staying here isn't something you planned once you started college" Her eyes turning glassy as we leaned our heads together. Her nick name always calmed me, a name my dad had started my first Halloween I dressed as an angel.
"I love being with you guys, of course I'll stay to help out" Smiling softly.
Looking back toward the small kitchen window above the sink. Sun was rising, I maybe had a hour before class.
Scraping the chair legs against the tile. Placing a small kiss on my mother's soft head. "I have to get ready for class" Turning my back on her.
"We're suppose to get hit with more rain this week. I'll be working late tonight, you know how people act when storms hit. End of the world" Shaking her head. Bags under her eyes indicating how truly tired she was, though she always had a smile on her lips.
