Adam nervously glanced at his friends. They were at Jaiden's and Laddi's dorm and they had just finished a game of truth or dare. The red moon was in only a couple of days and Adam started to have a bad feeling about it. The smallest mistake could cause loads of problems, but he didn't know how to keep his friends safe.
'We should go back to our own dorms soon. It's late and tomorrow is a schoolday.' Maaz said.
'Oh, come on, man. Don't ruin the fun.' Rush complained.
'Maaz is probably right. Besides, if you guys stay here for too long, you'll get in trouble.' Jaiden said.
'Yeah, watch out. If we go out past midnight, the ghosts will get us!' Rush joked.
'It's a full moon tonight. If the ghosts don't get you, the werewolves will.' James added.
'I heard that later this week the red moon is coming up.' Adam said. It was out there before he knew it. But he had to warn them if he wanted them to be safe.
'The red moon?' Rush asked.
'Yeah, it's when the moon colors red. It's actually pretty cool to see. I didn't know it was happening this week.' Maaz replied.
'That's not all. You know what happens during the red moon, don't you.' Adam whispered.
'You're not actually telling me you believe that, right?' Jaiden replied.
'Believe what?' Laddi asked.
'When the red moon rises, the demons from Hell come out to slaughter everything they see. It's one of the reasons it's also called the blood moon. Because of all the blood those demons spill.' Adam explained.
'I thought they called it that because the moon was red, just like blood.' James said.
'Oh, come on! You don't actually think that's true, right?' Maaz exclaimed.
'It is true.' Adam replied.
'Yeah, right.' Laddi said.
'I'm not lying. Please, you have to stay inside and be careful during the red moon!' Adam pleaded.
'Demons aren't real, Adam. I know you grew up with religious parents, but I always thought you didn't really follow that stuff.'
Maaz replied.
'Just promise me you'll all be careful during the red moon.' Adam said.
Maaz rolled his eyes, but eventually everybody promised to be careful, although that was mostly to calm Adam down.'Do you actually believe in that story of the red moon?' James asked as they were walking back to their own dorm.
'I do.' Adam replied.
'So you believe in demons?'
'Yeah.'
'Why?'
Adam froze. He didn't really know how to reply. He couldn't just say "because I'm a demon myself and I work for Lucifer to recruit new demons and hunt down angels." He hadn't really thought of a motivation that didn't reveal any secrets.
'Illy, a girl that was in my class a couple years ago, did a lot of research into the supernatural and stuff. Everything she showed me was pretty convincing.' Adam said eventually. It wasn't a complete lie. He had been in classes with a girl called Illy that was researching that kind of stuff, but he left out a lot of context about what was going on.
'Isn't it less scary to not believe in them?' James asked. He sounded almost worried.
'Not if you know what you're talking about.' Adam replied.
'What do you mean?' James asked confused.
'Demons aren't as bad as people make them out to be. Do they work for Satan... yes! Do they torture people... yes! Do they kill... yes! But there's a lot more to a demon than bloodlust. Usually they spent their time working for Lucifer, doing things like recruiting new demons, hunting down angels or making deals with humans.' Adam explained. He knew this wasn't information that was unknown to the human world, but he also knew he had to be careful to not say anything more than that.
'Wait, angels exist too?' James asked.
'Yeah, but there are a lot less of those than demons. While demons actively hunt down and eliminate angels, angels do nothing to make the demon population shrink. They're just saving the people that have good hearts and recruit new angels as well.'
'When you say recruit, what do you mean by that?'
'Well, angels recruit by looking for people with the purest hearts and then they try to convince them to become angels as well. Demons use a little more gaslighting and manipulation. In the end, it's the person itself that decides whether or not he becomes a demon. It's their choice, but often, the other option isn't that much better. A lot of people also become demons by a demon's deal. Demons make whatever deal you want. They can give you anything your heart desires, but it always comes with a price. Often your or someone else's soul.'
They arrived at their dorm and James opened the door.
'Let's hope those don't appear in my nightmares tonight.' The blonde said as he threw his keys on the coffee table.
'Don't worry. Unless you've been in contact with an angel or Lucifer chose you to sent a demon to because he wants you to become one as well, or you make a deal with a demon, you shouldn't be in danger. Except for during the red moon. That's why you have to be careful and stay inside.' Adam explained.
'How do you make a deal with a demon?' James asked.
'You summon them, tell them what you want and they'll give you their price.'
'Summon? How does that work?'
'I'm afraid I can't tell you that.'
'Why not?'
'I don't want you to try things. Summoning demons is dangerous. I just want to protect you.'Adam yawned as he entered the room.
'So, what are the results?' He asked as he walked over to Mona, who was inspecting the angel's feather.
'It's confirmed. This is from the angel that we're hunting.' Mona replied.
'That's awesome! It's gonna make it so much easier to find her.' Adam said.
'Yeah, now we'll have her in no time.' Mona exclaimed.
'I said easier, not faster.'
'What do you mean?'
'Have you ever hunted an angel down using its feather?'
'No.'
'Well, than this is the perfect opportunity to learn. We can get our information from this feather using some spells. But the preparation for those spells alone already take... at least a month. Maybe longer.'
Adam walked over to a bookshelf and took an old and dusty book. He started flipping through the pages until he found what he was looking for and put the book down on the table.
'That long?' Mona asked.
'Yeah, but it'll be easier than continuing to torture people for information that they most likely don't have anyways. This is quite the careful angel we got, but I've never failed Lucifer before.' Adam said as he started to copy something from the book on a piece of paper with his pen.
'For the spell, we need a potion. It takes a long time to make and needs a lot of ingredients. I'll collect the top 15 you do the bottom 16.' Adam added.
'Why am I doing 16?' Mona asked slightly annoyed as she looked at the list of ingredients.
'Because I'm the master and I tell you to.' Adam replied.
Mona took a piece of paper herself and started to copy her ingredients from the book as well. For a moment it was quiet as the two were writing.
'When was the last time you were in Hell?' Mona asked suddenly.
'I think the day before I moved into my dorm. If I stay away for long periods of time, my roommate and friends will get suspicious. Why are you asking?'
'That means you didn't see Lucifer's last announcement, I assume.'
'What announcement?'
'Everybody that wants to stay in Hell for the red moon, has to go there at least 24 hours before. He's closing the gates after that.'
'WHAT!' Adam dropped his pen and looked at Mona in disbelief.
'WHY?' He asked as he quickly picked his pen back up.
'He's tired of the demons that stay on earth and get really moody the day before the red moon and then go to Hell to be grumpy there. But why is that a problem?' Mona asked.
'Because I have school that day.' Adam replied.
'Just skip. What do you care.'
'I can't. There is a chance that the angel might be at my school. If I give off the impression that I'm a rule breaker, a skipper, it'll be harder to get close to her if we find out who she is. Angels tend to stay with people they believe are good hearted.'
'Just pretend you're sick.'
'I can't. Jameson will expect me to be in my dorm when I'm sick. I think I'll have to stay here on earth for the red moon then.'
Adam walked back to the bookshelf and started looking for something.
'Won't that endanger your friends?' Mona asked.
'Not if I cast a spell that can trap a demon.' Adam said as he flipped through the pages of a book. Mona walked up to him and pushed the book down so she could look at him.
'We both know the spell to trap demons from memory. What are you looking for in that book?' She asked.
'Something to make the effects of the spell temporary. I don't wanna have to wait until another demon shows up to be freed again.' Adam explained.
'Smart. I'm gonna get my stuff to go back to Hell. The red moon is tomorrow night and I need to go to Hell to get some of these ingredients anyways. I'll see you when it's over.' Mona said.
