We finally reached. It was a black warehouse that had a continuation of a red treetop type building snaking behind it. On it was written in big red letters, "HAUNTED MANSION."

This was going to be fun.

***

Even in the line, the walls were covered in cobwebs and hieroglyphics as the haunted house was mummy themed. I had always enjoyed coming here since I was a kid and it was one of my favourite attractions in the entire park. A sadistic part of me wanted to see George get scared out of his wits. His screams were always so funny, even when we were  playing online.

Including me and George, we were in a group of six people. The house was structured in a maze format. It was pitch dark when we entered except for a distant light source which we could see above the tall walls of the maze. The other four people, a couple and two kids, split off from us in the beginning. George and I decided to take a left, heading towards the light.

"You better not jumpscare me, alright?" he shakily demanded as we walked.

I only chuckled in response which caused him to gape at me in disbelief.

We continued to take turns at random, stumbling and hitting each other as well as the concrete walls in the dark. We eventually realised we were getting closer to the light and continued down as straight a path possible.  We finally arrived, turning slowly around the corner to see the illumination's origins. George started shrieking and virtually climbed onto me after seeing the jumpscare. A bloodied person wrapped in bandages was in a cage. They were holding the bars of the contraption, clanging the metal and shrieking. The lights turned red before going off completely, leaving me and Goerge in the dark.

I tried to calm George down but I'm pretty sure his fight or flight activated because he started clambering around looking for an exit. I took his hand and led him out of the area and took a right, leading us deeper into the maze.

"Thank you," he breathed heavily after we had run from the caged person. Although I felt slightly bad for how scared he was, I couldn't help but feel a slight sadistic amusement. It was so dark that he didn't notice me slip away and hide behind a corner of one of the maze walls.

"Dream?" he asked into the air after finally catching his breath and noticing my absence. After I didn't respond, he took a hesitant step forward. "Dream?" he said louder this time. "Hey, this isn't funny. If you jumpscare me, I'm going to kill you," he shout-whispered into the darkness. As he turned the corner I was hiding behind, I jumped out, grabbed him, and started screaming. He started screaming as well and froze in place. His shriek was so high pitched that it caused me to start hacking with laughter. He recognized my laugh immediately and started hitting me repeatedly, throwing every curse word possible my way. I apologized in between wheezes but he didn't exactly forgive me.

We continued through the maze, encountering people in mummy costumes running around, sounds of screaming and maniacal laughter, and illusionary fake bugs crawling on the wall. They had really amped up the place since I had been there last. George didn't fail to shriek like a little girl at every jumpscare. At least one of us was enjoying ourselves.

We ended with one last big jumpscare, another person screaming in a cage, before finally getting out. When George saw the outside, he doubled over with his hands on his thighs. "I am never trusting you again," he deadpanned.

"Oh come on, you have to admit it was kind of fun," I teased, walking past him.

I knew his silence secretly meant a yes.

"Come, there's one last thing to do," I said as we roamed through the park. The little mickey mouse streetlamps softly illuminated the pathway in front of us.
