After - Chapter 6

                                    

                                          
" You don't have to do this now honey, you can come back in a month if you want", Mum whispered. 
                          
" No I want to, I'll show them, I'm not weak and I'm not seeking attention , I just want my life back", I grumbled. 
                          
" That's my girl", my dad said and I knew he was smiling. 
                          
" Got your tablet and Angel", asked Mum. 
                          
" She has both Mrs Nash, she'll be fine, I'll help her if needed", said Rachel. 
                          
" Thank you Rachel, well have a good day and good luck", said Mum. I nodded and used Angel to help me get out of the car. Angel was my seeing stick but I hated calling her my seeing stick so I called her Angel. In the future, I will probably get a guide dog but that takes time, so I have Angel and Rachel and Maddy to help me. 
                          
It hurt that I had lost Lisa and my other friends that I had shared with Matt but I had Maddy and she was worth ten friends together. " Don't worry Jess, everything will be fine", said Rachel grabbing my left arm.
                          
I nodded silently and touched my sunglasses that hid my eyes from view. It made it easier as when I didn't wear the glasses, I got a headache trying to figure out what all the vague shadows were. 
                          
"Jess", yelled Maddy. 
                          
" Maddy", I smiled turning to face where her voice was. 
                          
" I'll take her Rachel, you should probably get a copy of Jess's time table and stuff she has missed from the office", said Maddy. I knew Rachel was smiling knowingly and I hid a giggle at Maddy's tactics.
                          
" Okay, you both have my number if you need help Jess", said Rachel. 
                          
" Yes", Maddy and I chorused. 
                          
" Well see you in a moment", said Rachel. Maddy pulled me gently towards my locker so I could get my books. 
                          
" What do we have today", I asked thanking God that Maddy and I shared the same classes. 
                          
" English, History, Maths and Drama", said Maddy. 
                          
I nodded feeling the locker for the key hole. I found it and opened my locker. Maddy  helped me grab my books and was about to say something when she was interrupted.
                          
" Hello Maddy and oh you're back Jess, I'm sorry you can't see but you'll get more attention now", said a voice recognised.
                          
" I don't want attention, I just want my life back, Lisa", I whispered. " I'm not attention seeking like you", I added. 
                          
" Shame about Matt and I heard you two did the deed", said Lisa and I could actually hear her smirking. 
                          
" At least her relationship lasted longer than you and James", Maddy said. I smirked and I guess Lisa saw it.
                          
" Well at least I can see", said Lisa. I frowned, tears starting to form. 
                          
" What happened Lisa, I thought you were sweet", I asked. 
                          
" People change and I hate people getting extra attention just because one thing happened, good luck being a blind slut", Lisa hissed and I heard her storm off. I took a shaky breath as Maddy gave me a side hug.
                          
" Ignore her Jess, she always wanted it to be about her", said Maddy. I nodded, locking my locker with fumbling fingers. 
                          
" Let's just get to class", I whispered and with Maddy's help, headed to English.
                          
... 
                          
" Why doesn't she just go to a disability school".
                          
" I can't believe she gave up her virginity so quickly".
                          
These whispers plagued me throughout the day. Maddy stuck by me, glaring at those who whispered and Rachel stayed by me. At last, History my final lesson  came. 
                          
When I entered, everyone was whispering excitedly, not talking about me. A new boy had come and was apparently joining this class. " At least they have something else to talk about besides me", I whispered to Maddy as we sat down, Rachel sitting to my right.
                          
" Good afternoon class, I'd like to introduce Jonah Pearson, he's just come back from living a few years in England with his father", said the teacher. 
                          
Jonah? Why did that name sound familiar for some reason. " Oh he's cute", Maddy whispered to me.
                          
" What does he look like", I asked.
                          
" Pale blonde hair, ice blue eyes with long dark lashes, broad shouldered, angular jaw, slight tan, tall and square glasses", Maddy listed.
                          
" I know him, I met him at Lucy's dance performance, a few hours before you know", I whispered unable to go on.
                          
" Oh, well I think he's recognised you because he's coming this way", whispered Maddy. 
                          
" Hello, do you remember me, we bumped into each other at that dance performance", said that familiar deep musical voice. I looked up in that direction and smiled weakly. 
                          
" Yes, I couldn't forget that day", I said. 
                          
" So what's your name", Jonah asked. 
                          
" Jessica Nash", I whispered.
                          
" Well Jessica Nash, do you mind taking those sunglasses off so I can see those pretty green eyes again", Jonah asked. I felt my cheeks reddened but before I could answer Lisa beat me to it.
                          
" Hi Jonah since you're new, you better know, Jessica is now blind and her pretty green eyes are probably white now", said Lisa. 
                          
I clenched my hands into to fist, my anger bubbling. " Actually no Lisa, yes I can't see but my still look normal, it just confuses me when it's lighter because my brain is trying to interpret this light and all these shadowy shapes", I grumbled.
                          
" Then prove it", Lisa challenged. 
                          
I took my sunglasses off and blinked quickly to give my brain a minute to get use to the new light. That's all it could understand light and the shadowy figures like your own shadow or shadow puppets. 
                          
I gave Jonah credit for kindness as he laughed softly. " They're much more beautiful then I remember", he said. I blushed, smiling shyly. 
                          
" Oh whatever", Lisa snarled and I felt her knock my glasses out of my hand and onto the floor. 
                          
" Hey!", shouted Maddy and I felt her jump up. " That was no unnecessarily Lisa, why are you such a bitch now", hissed Maddy.
                          
" At least I'm not a blind slut", she hissed and I knew she was pointing at me.
                          
" That is enough Lisa, return to your seat immediately, detention after school", yelled my teacher as I ducked trying to find my glasses. I was trying to compose myself as I fumbled around on the ground.
                          
I felt someone gently pull me up and I didn't resist, my eyes downcast. 
                          
" Here Jess and don't ever be ashamed of who you are or dwell on the bad stuff that has happened, if you keep your head high and move forward, things will get better", whispered Jonah. He gently pushed my glasses over my eyes and I wanted to cry with graditude.
                          
" Thank you Jonah", I choked and gave him a small smile. I felt him move away but I followed where he might be. For the first time since becoming blind, I saw something. Hope.
