"Dom."
Although Dom had been crying for a while, which was obvious by how his face looked like, he did give her a genuine smile. Way better than the first time they met.
He didn't say anything though and just walked over to the bed to sit down. Angel followed him with her eyes.
"If you need me, press the red button. And please do, okay? You're here because we want to help you. So don't hesitate," the nurse told Dom, who nodded.
"You too, Angel," the nurse told Angel, who nodded as well but rolled her eyes. They told her every day.
The nurses left the room way sooner than Angel had expected them to, probably because there wasn't much more to explain and Dom wasn't crying anymore. He just looked sad and exhausted.
"I'm sorry for whatever happened that made you have to go back," Angel said to Dom. As a response, Dom let himself fall on his bed. Angel was ok with it, though, the smile he had given her at the start had told her he didn't hate her. He probably just wanted space.
So she gave him that. She decided to just wait until he talked to her, because that was when he was ready. But that didn't come for hours. And even when Angel had turned the lights off to sleep, Dom hadn't said a word.
Only when it had been dark in the room for five minutes, Angel heard Dom's vulnerable voice say, "Angel?"
Angel's eyes shot open when she heard him say his name, and she was honestly shocked but she hummed quietly, not showing any other reaction.
"I think I need a hug."
It made Angel want to cry but also chuckle at the same time. Chuckle just because it sounded so small and innocent and she hadn't expected him to ever ask her for a hug, but cry because he sounded so broken. Every single word he just spoke sounded broken.
So Angel turned on the lights and got up, although she hated the cold that hit her body as soon as she moved the blankets away. When she got to Dom's bed, she saw he had already made place for her. He barely showed his face, but he did push the blankets away to invite her to get in.
So she did, and she gave him a long hug. They were more cuddling as they were laying down, but they both had needed it so much. Again.
Angel hadn't even heard Dom cry, and she hadn't even felt his chest shocking as he did, but when she moved to watch his face, she saw tears running down his rosy cheeks.
Very slowly, Angel moved her hand towards his face, watching him closely to make sure he wouldn't be uncomfortable with anything she was doing. Then her fingers touched his cheeks and she gently wiped away the tears. Dom closed his eyes at the feeling.
"You don't have to hide it when you cry," Angel told him, her face hanging above his just a few centimeters away from him. She was stroking her thumbs over his cheekbones, making sure all the tears were gone. "I cry a lot."
Dom had his eyes closed for a few more seconds, but when he opened them he seemed a little shocked by how close Angel was to his face. As soon as she noticed she moved back to lay her head on his chest and give him another hug.
"Those people I told you about... The people I see in my room..." Dom started, and Angel nodded to sign she was listening. "They told me to do something to myself. And they kept yelling at me so loud for an hour."
"So you did it," Angel guessed. There had to be a reason he was back here. So she guessed this was the one.
"Yeah," Dom said sadly. His hands made their way to her back and he just laid them there, not moving them.
"What did they tell you to do?"
Dom sniffed, which almost made Angel move up to see if he was crying again, but he soon started talking.
"They made me get a knife and just..."
One hand got removed from her back. Angel looked at Dom to see why, and watched him as he rolled up the sleeve of his white longsleeve until bandage got visible that was covering most of his arm.
"There's a whole cut right here." Dom trailed his finger over the bandage from his hand to his elbow, following the red line shining through the bandage. "My mom said it's pretty deep."
"They made you do that to yourself?" Angel whispered, touching the bandage lightly and looking up into Dom's sad eyes. He nodded.
"And when I did they just watched me and encouraged me and I had to go on and on until my mom heard me."
The only thing Angel could do was look at him sadly, as she was at loss of words. He looked back with the same look on his face and rolled his sleeve back down.
"If I could kill them I would," Angel said eventually.
Dom nodded and shot her a weak smile. "Me too. I've tried everything, though, I promise. Nothing made them go away."
When Angel made her head rest on his chest again and she heard his quick heartbeat even though he had seemed quite calm, she said, "do you think it helps if I stay with you tonight?"
For the first time she felt Dom's hands in her hair instead of on her back, and he brushed his fingers through it.
"We can try."
