•CHAPTER 2•
The day of the ball, and Diana's birthday, finally arrived and Diana was glad that it was all almost over with.
And Lucy allowed Diana to sleep in an extra thirty minutes before jumping on her bed to wake her up.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DIANA!" Lucy screeched in Diana's ear. Diana flinched, her eyes opening abruptly causing Lucy to giggle at the white haired girl's startled look.
"Please get off me." Diana mumbled and Lucy let out a sheepish apology before clambering off and sitting on the bed next to her. Diana let her eyes close again and Lucy laughed, poking her back. Diana groaned.
"We have to start getting ready! Florina said that she's got a bath nice and hot for you with lavender oils and she wants your hair to have time to dry before you put on your gown. Which, by the way, is absolutely gorgeous! Have you seen it yet? The dressmaker dropped it by last night and-"
"Lucy." Diana mumbled gently, opening one eye to look at the excited girl.
"Yes?"
"Shhh." Diana told her, pulling the younger girl down to lay next to her. Diana cuddled Lucy and Lucy giggled.
"Diana," She giggled. "You have to wake up. You don't want Edmund to come in and see you with drool on your chin, do you?"
"That boy somehow manages to get drool on his forehead when he's sleeping. I doubt he'll care much." Diana mumbled sleepily before shooting up and looking to Lucy with wide eyes.
"What?"
"Why'd you say Edmund? Why not the duke staying down the hall or-"
"Because you fancy Edmund, dummy. And Edmund's the only other person who ever comes in here before breakfast anyway."
"I don't fancy Edmund." Diana told Lucy with panic in her chest.
"Yes you do." Lucy giggled. "It's so obvious."
Diana flipped. "Does that mean he knows?!"
"Probably not. He's as daft as a rock." Lucy admitted. She wanted to say "and so are you" for Diana not noticing that Edmund is practically in love with her. All the Pevensie siblings found it rather aggravating and had been pushing Edmund to tell her now for months.
Diana's heart started beating normally again and she sighed, sinking back into the covers.
"No," Lucy chided, grabbing Diana's hand and tugging her into the large bathroom. Florina was waiting there, testing the bath water temperature. A slight bit of steam rose off the water surface and Diana sighed as her hair began to friz up due to the humidity.
"Here you are, Miss Florina." Lucy gave the fawn a smile. "She's ready to be pampered!"
"Can I at least get something to eat first?" Diana asked. Florina laughed gently as Lucy grumbled something about asking someone to bring her up some scrambled eggs.
With that, Lucy left the bathroom and Diana undressed before sinking into the warm water with a content sigh.
"I might just stay here all day." She told Florina.
"You'd look like a raisin." The fawn mused. Diana shrugged, seeming ok with that.

"This dress is massive!" Diana exclaimed when Lucy came back in later, holding pounds of lavender tulle and beads.
"It just looks big now because it's all folded up." Lucy argued before setting the dress out on the bed. "Hurry up and change, the party starts in half an hour and you'll need to make your grand entrance!"
"This isn't a fairy tale, Lu." Diana sighed. "I'll just sneak in through a back entrance."
"Well, alright." Lucy sighed dramatically. She'd already dressed for the ball in a light pink gown that looked lovely on her. "Miss Florina, would you help me get this on her?"
"Of course, Your Majesty."
"I am not wearing a corset." Diana told them, mentally stamping down the foot. That's where she drew the line. She'd put up with the big dress and the fancy party and all the people who didn't know her but she would not wear the corset. Or heels. "No," She said at Lucy's pleading look. "It's not happening. How am I supposed to fight with a corset?"
"You won't need to fight, Diana. It's a party, not a battle." Lucy reminded her.
"Ok well then how am I supposed to dance with Edmund if I can't even breathe?" Diana pointed out, hoping that would convince Lucy. Lucy thought on it for a minute before agreeing and mentally, Diana jumped up and down giddily.
With that, Diana let Lucy and Florina help her into the lavender gown and once it was done, Diana looked at herself in the mirror, seeing somebody she didn't recognize.
"Diana you look amazing!" Came Susan's voice. She walked in through the doors, wearing her emerald gown and looking at Diana with something like pride.
"Thanks, Su." Diana gave her a smile as Florina started working on Diana's hair. By the time she was done, Susan and Lucy had left to go meet guests for the party. Diana's hair fell in soft ringlets around her shoulders with a braid on either side of her head, going around her head to meet in the back.
"You look lovely, Miss." Florina gave her a smile.
"Florina, you work wonders." Diana thanked her and then made her way to her closet, grabbing a pair of white, slightly scuffed, flats that Peter had given her last year for her birthday. She slid them onto her bare feet and finally felt content.
"You won't need that dagger." Florina reminded Diana gently as Diana started trying to figure out how to hide a dagger in her bodice.
"What am I supposed to do? Fight off threats with cake?"
"There will be guards at every entrance and some stationed in the ballroom. You'll be fine."
Diana grumbled something beneath her breath about how it was her job to protect her friends, that Aslan had given her that job. But no one else was supposed to know.
"Let's head down then, shall we?" Florina asked.
Diana nodded and together, they left her room.
A/N: Hehehe the ball has begun. Also, I love Diana and Lucy's relationship.
