Oikawa never appeared to be a violent person. He was a good-looking, smart, talented boy. All the girls liked him. And he was always nice to everyone. That's what everyone thought. But nobody was closer to Oikawa than Iwaizumi. It started off in middle school when Oikawa's violence began to show. Nobody had ever brought his emotions to such a high level, that was until Kageyama had showed up. Seeing such a talented junior, Oikawa feared him. Iwaizumi noted this, and tried to comfort Oikawa. But he insisted that Kageyama would take his spot as setter, and he despised him.
One day after school, Oikawa's mind flashed with red images. He lunged at the boy, being stopped by Iwaizumi. Kageyama was scared of his senpais. Iwaizumi had always been nice to him, but Oikawa flat out terrified him. Nobody knew what made Iwaizumi such an angry, forceful person after middle school. Maybe Oikawa began to rub off on him, or maybe he just liked being tough. Either way, Iwaizumi was always there for Oikawa. And when they both found out they liked the same girl, of course they were bound to work together to earn her attention.
Present
"Iwa-Chan!" Oikawa sets the ball to his best friend. Smacking it down on the opposing court, their teammates groan. "No fair that all the third years get to be one team! Of course they're going to get more points." Kindaichi mutters. Kunimi shrugs. "Whatever, it's just a practice game." "Come on guys, we can get them! Let's just form a strategy." Yahaba says. The first and second years huddle forming a plan. "Looks like they're trying to figure something out." Matsukawa says. Hanamaki nods, taking a sip from his water bottle. Oikawa sits on the bench, closing his eyes. "Are you meditating again?" Iwaizumi asks. Oikawa wrinkles his nose. "No, I'm not meditating. I'm warming up." "Whatever, captain." Hanamaki snorts. The gym is silent except for the whispers of devising a strategy. Quiet footsteps make their way into the gym, getting louder as they approach the third years. They stop. Oikawa opens his eyes to see y/n standing with Matsukawa. "Y-y/n!" Oikawa stands up. "Wouldn't have thought you'd notice her here in that odd state of yours." Iwaizumi says. "Hey." You say to the two boys. "What's up? Coming to tell us about your next game?" Oikawa chimes. You smile and shake your head. "No, I just came to watch you guys for a change. I felt I should watch your game since you watched mine." You say. The fact of the matter was that you felt the need to repay them. They had showed concern for you being bullied, so it was only right to attempt to get to know them better.
"Well take a seat!" Oikawa smiles. He offers you his hand and you take it. "Let me introduce you to our teammates and coach." Oikawa walks you over to the opposite side of the court. "You know her?" Iwaizumi asks Mattsun. "Yep, I have a class with her. I didn't know you two fancied her." He says. Hanamaki grins as the both of them watch Iwaizumi's cheeks flush pink. "We just think she's nice, that's all." He mutters. The three third years watch as Oikawa makes everyone introduce themselves to you. Kindaichi scratches his head and blushes, stirred up from interacting with an older girl. Kunimi remains his quiet self even after he meets you.
Yahaba becomes a nervous wreck, stuttering and blushing madly. This girl's even cuter than that blonde one from Karasuno. He thinks. You smile at Yahaba and Kindaichi, giggling. "I don't bite, you know. You two can relax." You say. Kunimi laughs. "Ha, they aren't scared of you. They're just chicken around a female Senpai." He says. Watari remains calm and smiles as he introduces himself. Lastly, it's Kyoutani's turn to speak. He eyes you silently as you stand in front of him. "Sorry about him. I call him Mad Dog because he's such a strong player." Oikawa says. Kyoutani steps forward and pushes Oikawa to the side. He glares at you and stops. "It's Kyoutani." He says, looking away. "Oh, so you do have a name! I thought it was interesting Oikawa called you that pet name." You say.
He shrugs. "Only Iwaizumi can call me by my name." With that, Oikawa takes you over to their coach, and he openly welcomes you to sit down. "F/n L/n, huh? You're our girls' team's number 5." He says. "That's right." You say. "Well, it's nice to meet you. Then I'm sure you'll be fine observing the game without me needing to explain anything." He smiles. You nod.
The boys continue practice. Kindaichi, Kunimi, and Yahaba form a triple block to try to stop Iwaizumi's spikes. They know Iwaizumi well, so they believe they can stop him just a few times. But Iwaizumi is smarter than them. He's been playing longer, he can read their movements. In the end, the third years win. The team heads into the locker room, all except for the captain and his ace. "Heading out?" Oikawa asks as you swing your bag over your shoulder. "In a minute I will. Are you guys taking the train?" You ask. They both nod. "I am too. I guess we could walk to the station together." You suggest. Oikawa nods. "Sure, y/n-Chan!" He says. "You two can wait outside. I have to go lock the club room." Iwaizumi says as he walks away.
So the both of you just stand there quietly. Oikawa fidgets a little, tapping his foot and then fixing his hair. You watch as he runs his hand through his brown curly locks. "Is your hair naturally styled like that? Or do you use gel?" You ask him. Oikawa grins. "It's natural! I try not to use harsh products on it." He says. You slowly raise your hand, looking at him. You want to touch his hair, but you don't want to just go for it without his permission. "I bet you're wondering if it's fluffy." Oikawa leans down and you pat his head. Soft.. you smile. "You have really pretty hair." Oikawa says to you.
"I do? Thank you, that's nice of you to say." You blush. "Do you ever braid it?" He asks a few seconds later. "Sometimes.. I mainly leave it down like it is. Plus I don't really put much effort into styling it." Oikawa nods. "My older sister, I remember her teaching me how to braid hair. Then when I was a little older, I'd braid her hair. But she's in college right now, about to graduate. I guess living with a sister teaches a guy more about girl things." He says.
You nod. Iwaizumi walks back within a few minutes, and the three of you begin to walk away from the gym. "So y/n, so you have anything else you like to do besides volleyball?" Iwaizumi asks. You think for a second. "Well, when I'm not practicing I like to read manga, draw, waste my time on social media, and shop." You say. "What type of manga do you like?" Oikawa asks. "Action ones. I'm currently reading Attack on Titan. I'm also working on Demon Slayer as well." "Cool. Have you ever watched Godzilla?" Iwaizumi smiles. You nod. "My mom used to watch it when she was little. I like the series, I've seen a lot of the movies."
"Iwa-Chan is obsessed with Godzilla. He even has it on his phone case." Oikawa teases. Iwaizumi hits him and rolls his eyes. "Anyways, do you have a favorite movie?" "I'd say from the older ones Godzilla bs Mechagodzilla, and then the more recent ones Final Wars." You arrive at the train station and look at the station map. "I need to go here." You point at a section on the map. "That's not either of our routes. Looks like we'll see you around then, y/n." Oikawa says. You wave as the two boys walk away and then board the train. Sitting down holding your phone, a text message appears from your mom.
Mom: School is closed tomorrow. Something terrible happened. I'll forward you the voice message from the principal.
Closed? On a Wednesday? What could make them shut down so abruptly?
