-------------

Everyone had a Mate. I'd heard that line my entire seventeen years of living. But now that I had one more year till I was a fully matured wolf, I decided it was all shit.

High school was also a pain I had to deal with. Five days a week, filled with a bunch of sweaty humans. They were annoying, and the strong smell of perfume, hairspray and mens' cologne were overpowering. Girls moved around excitedly, boys were always checking for eye candy. It made me sick.

Luckily, I wasn't alone in my teenage hell. My best friends Cassidy and Matthew attended this misery with me. We were usually left alone. But on occasion Matthew's jock friends came along. Or Cassidys group of gossiping chickens came by. But they paid me no mind. And I was okay with that.

For a wolf, I wasn't exactly to standards. I stood at five-foot-four, with a curvy body. Even with that curviness, I was still slim., weighing in at a mere hundred and five pounds. I had light brown hair, going toward my midback ending in ringlets. My eyes were an abnormally bright green, with small flecks of blue.

According to Cassidy, I had a lot of guys who wanted to talk to me. But I simply ignored it. I couldn't afford to waste my time on hormonal boys. I had other things to worry about.

Like the rumors of the new guy.

To all humans, he would just be another piece of eye candy. But I had Cassidy do research, seeing as she worked as an office aide. Our visitor was named Lawrence Knight. He was technically twenty, but to us, there was a reason he was here. During Cassidys research at home, she had come across something that had her calling me at three in the morning.

Lawrence Knight was an Alpha.

That had me up the rest of the night. An Alpha, at Collington Private School, was going to drum up Cassidys and my nerves. It could only man one thing if he was coming into another packs' territory.

He was trying to find his Mate.

This wasn't the first time this kind of thing happened. Whether it was an Alpha, Beta, or even an Omega, they will go to any lengths to claim their Mate. Even if it means lying about their age.

But for an Alpha, there were only three known cases. And none of them had ended pretty. Alphas were known to find their Mate young, around fifteen and sixteen. So Lawrence was a rare, odd case.

"Hey, Mimi." Matthews voice cut into my never ending thought process. "You're getting your crinkles." He smelled the air playfully. "Do I smell smoke?"

"Back off, Matt," Cassidy chastised, sitting on my desk. She adjusted her knee high socks as she said, "We both have reasons to worry today."

Matthew scowled. "We aren't the only wolves attending the school, you know," he pointed out.

I sighed. "That's why he's going to call all of us out of our classes to assess us. And I'm praying that it's not me."

Cassidy's bright hazel eyes lit up. "I hope it's me. Just think of it." She laughed.

I had always admired Cassidy. She was always so calm. She was also pretty, with her straight blonde hair with side swept bangs. She was slender with a ton more curves than me. She stood at five-foot-seven, mostly all leg.

I couldn't see why she'd want Lawrence. It was rumored he was a cocky tyrant. I had a stubborn streak thirty yards wide; I wouldn't be able to handle him. He was the kind of guy your mother warned you about. And mine had, plenty of times.
