Proof From The Alpha

Start from the beginning

"AHA"!, shouted Fudge.  "So you agree, he has the mark".

Harry carried on as if he had never been interrupted.  Fuck he couldn't stand this man, how was it possible that someone so stupid got to be head of the bloody Wizengamot?  HOW?  He was going to change that, actually, he was going to change a lot of things, when they found out that he was the Alpha.  He felt a warm fuzzy feeling go through him.

"Dolores Umbridge was approached to be a death eater.  She declined, but offered someone else in her place instead.  Voldemort agreed to the terms.  Lucius never took his mark willingly, as she stated.  He was forced into it.  He was led into the ceremony by none other than Dolores Umbridge herself.  It is she who wears the mark, not Lucius.  He has done nothing but donate to the ministry, donate to charity, give quarterly meetings as to how much money should go to what institution, etc etc".  Harry was panting by the time he was finished.  Then he turned to Lucius, and clamly said, "Lucius, please lift your sleeve, so that they can see what I am referring to".

Lucius looked at Harry with respect.  He had been told only to do or speak when Harry asked him to, and deep down he knew that the Alpha in Harry was demanding that he show what power he had shown off only a couple of days before.  Rising slowly, he undid the cuff on his sleeve, and pulled it up.  Turning his forearm so that the whole court could see it, he swallowed audibly.  Waiting for the outcry from everyone, he closed his eyes and held his breath.

The whole courtroom had gone silent once more.  They were in awe of what they were seeing.  There was a sword with his wife and son's name on it, but there was no dark mark.  They were appalled.  They were shocked.  They were speechless.  When Lucius opened his eyes, he knew that they had practically won the case.

"There is no mark, as you can see.  All the so called death eaters that were forced to become one, and used to bear a mark, don't anymore because their hearts were never really in it to begin with.  Because they were never true death eaters.  Only those that were, still wear it on their forearm, with a certain pride, no doubt.  If you ask Umbridge to lift her sleeve, I have an idea that a mark will be there, replacing the one that she forced Lucius to take.  I can call in other witnesses who used to wear the mark, that have it no more, but I think you all get the picture", he stated.  "Madame Bones, I hardly think that sending my client to Azkaban, through no fault of their own, is justice being served.  I am saddened to say that the Wizengamot need to upgrade on their ethics, if that were to be the decision".  And deciding to use her own words against her, he quoted Umbridge, "I know that all of you will agree with me when I say, that evil and lies have no place in our society.  Thank you", he said with finality, and went to sit down in his chair.

Everyone in the courtroom had turned to look at Umbridge.  Her face was white with disgust.  How had this happened.  She had woken up this morning, convinced that she was going to win the trial of her carreer, and here she was being accused of being something that she wasn't.  Wanting to get the upper hand, she slowly lifted her sleeve, to prove that this little boy, this idiot Potter was just trying to make fun of her, and in no way was he right.  He was never going to be right.  But there, on her forearm was the dark mark, as if she had attended the ceremony and had been branded by Voldemort himself.

She heard herself scream, and then she fainted.  Fudge was sputtering as if to say, what the hell had just happened, when Amelia Bones stood up and looked at Harry Potter with utter fascination.  "Mr Potter, we need a moment to deliberate".  He nodded at her, and smiled at the fact that no one was attending to Umbridge.  Not even five minutes had passed when Madame Bones called order to the court.

"Mr Potter, we have reached a unanimous decision", she said.

A unanimous decision hadn't been reached in fifty years.  Harry and Lucius stood up, and with baited breath, waited for the results.  "We, the Wizengamot, find your client, Lucius Malfoy to be not guilty of being a death eater, and for his crimes in the war.  We will award him his wand, and his full stature in the wizarding community.  Thank you for your immaculate defence of him, and may I say, you should consider becoming a lawyer", she said with a smile.

Harry let out a breath, and turned to Lucius.  He was hugging his wife, and when they separated, it was their turn to hug him together.  Feeling crushed, he was so happy.  Happy that he had done what he set out to do, happy that he could go home and snog his mate.  Happy that he had brought Lucius back to them, which was what he had set out to do from the beginning.  Not bothering to hear what Fudge had to say, he asked in a very calm voice, what was going to happen to Umbridge.  Not that he cared, but she needed her just punishment.

"She will be sent to Azkaban Mr Potter", said Madame Bones.  And that was when Harry knew that he could go back and celebrate in earnest with his new family.  Saying thank you and smiling, he reached down to take his briefcase, but remembered that he had to address something that had been bothering him since the onset of all of this.  He told Madame Bones that the person who had been guarding Lucius Malfoy at Azkaban, had been beating and abusing him.   Please could she do everything in her power to make sure it never happened to anyone again, and to confiscate the wand of the person responsible.  She gave her word that she would do so, and would owl him as soon as it had happened.  Smiling, he left the courtroom with his client and his wife.  Holding onto the elbow of Lucius, they flooed together back to the Manor.

His head was pounding, and he knew it wasn't only from the stress or the pressure of today, it was because he hadn't seen Draco for a while.  He needed to be held by him.  Just until the worst of the pain passed.  All it had taken was proof.  Proof from the Alpha, and he was reeling.
