Clearing his throat, he started to roll up his sleeves to just above the elbow.  Harry felt the most relaxed when dressed casually.  And he was relaxed, well almost.  Pushing his chair back in, he leaned his hands on the back of his chair, looked at Lucius and winked, and started his line of defence.

"Dolores Umbridge was a teacher at Hogwarts when I was in my fifth year.  She was very big on punishment, especially when she decided that the children were telling lies.  She even had me write with a blood quill on my hand, that I MUST NOT TELL LIES.  I have also recently learned that this was illegal.  I still have the scars.  So for her to stand here, and tell you lies is an absolute contradiction of her beliefs, and a huge miscarriage of justice.  The first lie she told here today is that Lucius Malfoy is a death eater.  He is no more a death eater than I am", he fumed.

At these words, there was a rush of discussion in the court.  Mumblings could be heard from all sides.  "What nonsense is this?", shouted Fudge.  "He bears the dark mark".  Harry could see that Fudge was pleased with himself.

"Even if that were true, it does not make him a death eater.  Bearing a mark means you belong to something, a tribe, or a cult if you will.  It does not make you evil, or change your perception to suit others, that too have the mark.  It is not against the law to wear markings.  I can offer you proof that Lucius Malfoy is in fact not a death eater as Umbridge states.  But first, I will address her lies in the order that they were introduced to this court".

Everyone was hanging onto his every word.  He looked up at Amelia Bones, and saw her smiling.  He knew that having Lucius dress the way he had, had made an impression on some of the people here.  And if he had her on his side, then he was halfway home.  "The second lie Umbridge has told today is that he wears or rather wore, the mark willingly.  This is not true.  He was, I am very sad to say, forced to take the mark, or otherwise his family would either be killed or have to bear the mark themselves in his stead.  What would any of you have done?  Would you rather push your wife or your son forward and say, this one's on you.  Or would you take it, to save their dignity.  To save their lives?  In my eyes, that makes Lucius Malfoy a very brave man.  Not a death eater by any means.  Yes, he was told to follow Voldemort.  Yes he was in the graveyard when the bastard came back to life.  But he had to keep up with appearances.  You have to remember that the lives of his wife and son were on the line.  That to me is a no brainer".

He left the chair, and walked up to the Wizengamot, looking at them in all their glory.  He could see fascination, wonder and understanding in their faces.  Then he turned to look at the prosecution.  Her face was so red with anger, he had to stifle his laugh.  When he looked at Kingsley, he saw the man wink at him.  He chose to ignore it, and carried on.

"The third lie, and this to me is the most disgusting of all of them, is Umbridge says 'she knows for a fact that he asked to branded with it'.  Well, I call bullshit", he said with a growl.  If it was one thing that Harry hated, it was using other people to gain power and fame.  He also knew for a fact that Umbridge herself had been asked to join the death eater circle, and in compensation for her refusal, she had to bring another one forth to take it in her name.  In her place.  Guess who she had chosen?

Walking back to his table, he produced paperwork that he had dug up from many years ago, and some of it was found in the library of the Malfoy Manor.  He loved the elves for not throwing anything away.  He was going to high five all of them when he got home.  Handing over all his research to Madame Bones, he started to give an account of what he knew to be the truth, and hoped to Merlin that it would all be over soon.  His head was killing him.

Harry knew it was time to go in for the kill.  "The paperwork that I have just handed to Madame Bones, bears what really happened the day that Lucius got his mark".
