Lucy did not mind Divination class. This was partly due to the fact that Granger was not a student. She found the subjects that Professor Trelawney taught to be mildly interesting and had discovered easy ways to come up with mindless answers.
Lucy sat next to Arielle at one of the small circular tables that were crammed inside of the room. She sat on a fat little pouf waiting for the loony professor to appear so that class could begin. The room was lit with dim, crimson light, and the curtains were all closed shut. It was stiflingly warm in the class, leaving Lucy no choice but to remove her robes so that she did not sweat to death. The fire that burned under the crowded mantelpiece had a large copper kettle above it.
Lucy glanced over at the table beside her where Draco and Theo were seated. The blonde however, had already been staring. His head was cupped by his hand as his steely blue eyes stared into her amber ones.
She had managed to avoid Draco over the weekend after he had nearly kissed her and left her hanging. Frustration bubbled up inside her at the memory.
"Hello, my dear children!" greeted Professor Trelawney, tearing Lucy away from his gaze. She had very large thick rimmed glasses and her neck and arms were covered in beads and bangles.
"You, dear," she gasped suddenly at a Hufflepuff boy. "Your grandfather will fall gravely ill on the eighteenth of January,"
The boy looked stunned.
"Today we will be seeing into the future with the delicate art of tasseography!" Professor Trelawney declared dramatically to the classroom as she readjusted her shawl. "Now, I want you all to divide into pairs. Collect a teacup from the shelf and then come to me and I'll fill your cup. Then sit down and drink until only the leaves remain. Swirl these around three times with the left hand and then give your cup to your partner and have them read them. Do your best to interpret these patterns in your book,"
Lucy glanced down at her copy of Unfogging the Future and thumbed through the pages to the section on tea leaves. There was a commotion as everyone got up from their poufs and shuffled over to the shelves.
The shelves running around the circular walls were crammed with dusty-looking feathers, stubs of candles, many packs of tattered playing cards, countless silvery crystal balls and a huge array of teacups. When it was Lucy's turn, she reached for the blue teacup, but her arm fell short.
"Here," came Draco's voice from behind her as he picked the dainty teacup off the shelf and placed it in her hands. Lucy stared up at him with wide eyes.
"Thanks," she mumbled as she hurried over to Professor Trelawney, who gingerly filled her mug with an aromatic tea.
Lucy returned to her pouf besides Arielle and began to sip at the bland tea.
"I do hope my leaves tell me something interesting," sighed Arielle dreamily. She was a heavy believer in divination, and one of Trelawney's favorites.
