ParkerSeeing as I had told Riley that we would have dinner with Summer and Noah the next day without actually asking them, I hoped that they would both come. I had kind of said it in the moment, because I wanted her to meet my closest friends and more importantly, I wanted to see her again. I was delighted when she agreed so quickly, and it was clear that something really had changed when she told me everything. I couldn't believe that was really the reason why she acted like she never wanted to be around me. What kind of cold-hearted imbecile would I have to be to dislike someone only because of their past which that had no control over? Luckily, when I got home Noah was in the kitchen.
"Hi." I said whilst chucking my coat on the sofa and putting my key in my pocket.
"I just came in to eat your food, I have to go in ten." I rolled my eyes at him before we both chuckled. Both Summer and Noah seemed to have a bad track record for remembering to buy decent food. I didn't mind though. My house was practically their second home, and at times when I wasn't at work, it was nice having them to chat to.
"No problem." I walked over and leaned against the kitchen counter. "Are you and Summer by any chance free tomorrow evening?" I asked subtly.
"Yeah, we aren't doing anything. We were actually planning to come here tomorrow night. We thought we could all do dinner together or just watch a movie." That was lucky, I thought to myself.
"Great. OK, dinner but add one." I said and waited for him to do the maths.
"That's a bloody first! You want to bring a date to have dinner with me and Summer? You mean to tell me you have actually gotten close to a girl?" He said it half sarcastically, even thought it was true. "Is it the girl you kept going on about from a café?"
"Yeah. I mean, we haven't really had a proper date yet it's...more complicated than that." It was true. We had never had a normal date, but I didn't know if it was even necessary. I already knew her really well, and neither of us were too fond on formal restaurants and that style of date.
"So is it face, body or both, Parker?" He said ignorantly as he continued to eat. That was all I needed to hear for a surge of anger to flood down my spine leaving a trail of fire in its path. My hands scrunched into a first and I could feel my fingers turning white from the pressure.
"You better shut your damn mouth Noah before I punch you. I don't know how it is with you and Summer, but over things exist than appearance. Do whatever the hell you want with your relationship but try to have the slightest inch of dignity and learn that not all people think like you. You know full well if looks were what I cared about I wouldn't have rejected some of those ditsy, pretty rich girls." My rage flooded out like magma. I was usually quite good at containing myself, but when it came to Riley I had no control.
"That ugly, huh?" He teased again.
"I SWEAR NOAH IF YOU DON'T-"
"Calm down Parker." He interrupted. "I'm messing with you. And of course that is not all I see in Summer, it's just you have never really done dates and girlfriends, I kind of thought it was just physical attraction." I tried to relax my body.
"I didn't think I did feelings either. But you know, it just kind of happened and I don't hate the feeling." I said slowly. "And for the reference, she is the most gorgeous girl I have ever seen, but if she was another ditsy rich girl I would have no interest in her."
"But for real Parker, I have never seen you like this over a girl. And you are usually pretty calm and rational too. I can tell it is a hell of a lot more than physical attraction, you almost bit my head off there. You really like her don't you?" I sighed.
"Yes, I do. I'm in deep shit." He laughed at me. "Oh and before I forget, it is a bit more complicated than just a girl that I like."
"What do you mean?"
"OK, bear in mind I do genuinely like her a lot." He nodded waiting for me to continue and I took a deep breath. "She is kind of...David Atkinson's daughter."
