Kay's comments: This story was a delightful read on Wei Wuxian's birthday! He was allowed to be the most BAMF of all time and take Wen Ruohan (and his sons and Wen Zhuliu) out of the equation without batting an eye. I really enjoyed how overpowered he was, but what I loved even more was Wangxian's relationship in this. It started out pretty wonky after Lan Wangji held on to his rigid beliefs in the beginning, but he was humbled real quick and then strived to improve and to become a better person and cultivator. Excerpt: Wei Wuxian looks at Bichen for a moment before dragging his eyes to meet Lan Wangji's. He murmurs thoughtfully, “My playing wasn't that bad.” “Demonic cultivation harms the temperament and mind,” Lan Wangji grits out past the rabbiting of his own heart. Wei Wuxian raises his brows in disbelief, “You were there the whole time! All I did was play my dizi. I would not expect a Lan, of all people, to call musical cultivation demonic.” Lan Wangji steps forward, his eyes on the dark sword that Wei Wuxian strapped across his back as soon as the final bits of resentment were absorbed. “You did not liberate the waterborne abyss, you merely transferred it into that blade.” Wei Wuxian tilts his head, studying Lan Wangji as if he did not expect that Lan Wangji would notice what clearly happened in front of his own eyes. “The waterborne abyss is no longer in Biling lake. The people of Caiyi will not suffer from the closure of their main transportation and trade route. The corpses are suppressed until they can be properly returned to their families and buried with the appropriate rites. What harm remains for you to protest?” Lan Wangji glares at him, “And what happens to the abyss tainting your sword?” Wei Wuxian takes a step forward. Now they are only a few hand-widths from touching. He smiles humorlessly at Lan Wangji, “That is no concern of the Lan sect.” Or you, remains unstated. Lan Wangji snaps in outrage, “The proper methods exist to prevent the corruption from your path. You risk yourself and everyone around you with your reckless disregard for orthodoxy!”

Summary: Before Wei Wuxian can say he will join Jiang Cheng and attend the Wen indoctrination, a letter describing the burning of the Cloud Recesses reaches Lotus Pier. Realizing the danger to the Jiang sect, he decides to stay behind to help with the defenses and keep his sect safe. While he agonizes over the fate of the disciples sent as little more than hostages, he upgrades the wards of the Jiang sect to stand against the inevitable Wen army. Lotus Pier will survive, and Wei Wuxian changes his own fate and the fate of the Sunshot Campaign. Kay's comments: A WIP, but only barely! I hope I manage to post this in time for WIP Rec Week, because tawaen updates quickly and there's only one chapter missing! I really, really enjoyed the direction this canon divergence took with Wei Wuxian staying behind in Lotus Pier during the indoctrination and making sure there's at least one person who prepares for the inevitable Wen invasion. I won't spoil much, but he's also becoming a rogue cultivator and finds his way to Lan Wangji sooner and you know, I'm so weak for that. Can't wait for the last chapter! Excerpt: “A decision on aiding the Lan need not be made now. However, our disciples will need to leave early tomorrow. A-Xian, I assume you will go with A-Cheng?” Jiang Fengmian looks over with an indulgent smile, but it is strained at the edges. Jiang Yanli turns in her seat to face him with open concern. She would send no one if that were possible. At some point during the argument she stopped peeling lotus seeds, remaining still and impassive to avoid drawing attention to herself. Her hands clench with her nails digging into her palms. Wei Wuxian didn't even notice. He gives her a reassuring smile. Wei Wuxian salutes, “Uncle Jiang, at this time, I would like to stay in Lotus Pier. We should not send our two best fighters to Qishan. One of us should remain behind in case of further Wen demands.” While Jiang Yanli relaxes slightly, Jiang Cheng turns sharply to look at him with betrayal in his eyes. This would normally make Wei Wuxian change course – but the Lan wards failed. Who is to say the Jiang wards would prevail?

Summary: In the most ambitious heist ever planned, Team Rocket attempts to steal two legendary Pokémon – one from the Burial Mounds Gym Leader, Wei Ying; and one from the Snow White Pavilion Gym Leader, Lan Zhan. These two former rivals are paired up to battle against one another for the first time since becoming Gym Leaders! Will they be able to defeat Team Rocket? Or will they loose their composure and their Pokémon? (Just joking, Wei Ying and Lan Zhan never even notice Team Rocket. They only have eyes for each other!) Kay's comments: It's been a hot minute since I last consumed any Pokémon content, but you don't have to be very knowledgeable to get the gist of this fic. Rivals fem Wangxian meet again after years apart to battle, now both as gym trainers and it goes differently than expected. Really loved the slow clearing of the past misunderstandings between them and of course the Wen-Wei found family vibes. And Wei Ying the MILF. Excerpt: “Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan breathes out raggedly. She comes up to the top landing, but doesn't get any closer. “Can you tell me what I did wrong?” Wei Ying tries to keep her voice even, “You didn't do anything wrong.” She doesn't succeed. Her voice breaks as she says that. “You forfeit the match. You are crying. Please, what can I do?” Lan Zhan keeps her voice soft. Before today, they have not spoken in almost four years. Wei Ying has never heard her be so gentle. She clearly will not leave until she knows Wei Ying is fine. So Wei Ying just needs to convince her of that, somehow. “You really didn't do anything wrong. I just wasn't expecting to see Froslass again. I swear, I just need a moment. Then I'll be fine.” Lan Zhan sucks in a breath, “I traded to get Froslass because the other person told me you were the original trainer.” “I'm glad she's with you. That's... I really am happy. I'm just surprised.” Wei Ying sternly tells herself that she is happy. This is what she originally wanted.

While this is part of the series, it is definitely NOT what happened in that fic. Reading the other story is not at all necessary to enjoy this one!)
