Summary:  It was either a kidnapping or an invitation to a sleepover; Wei Wuxian honestly couldn’t tell which.
My comments:  When wwx is injured, Nie Huaisang sees an opportunity to mend fences after puppeteering so many people for so many years.
Excerpt:  When they reached the Unclean Realm, they flew over the walls of the fortress and landed in a court that Wei Wexian didn’t remember, a terrace above a garden space with ponds and potted trees and lush plants. The rooms facing it had wide open doors, revealing interiors rich with embroidery, tassels, and bright paint. If this was the way to the dungeons now, Nie Huaisang really had done extensive remodeling. As they landed, people in Nie colors appeared in the doorways, staring with startled curiosity.

Summary Part 1:  Jiang Cheng may not be talking to Wei WuXian, but that’s no reason for him to allow Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi to wander around unwed, reflecting badly on their Sects. (Or: Jiang Cheng spite-throws Wei WuXian a wedding.)
My comments:  Oh, my feelings are sore: I think they got a workout. Over the course of 4 stories:  jc and wwx (and lwj) get to the point where they can communicate; jc finds lxc and realizes that they have a lot of similarities and maybe jc can keep him from making similar mistakes; lan sizhui learns that sacrificing yourself for a friend can actually do more damage than good; and jin ling looks at all his elders and realizes that forgiveness and growth is gonna have to start with him, and it should include nhs, who is lonely and very, very brittle.
Basically, everyone needs therapy and they kinda get it.

To Bring You Back Within My Reach by ablaiseofglory

M, WIP, 20k, Wangxian

Summary: Lan Wangji, tired of the distance created by his own hand, does not know if his husband will ever be happy in Cloud Recesses, if he will ever get to see that beautiful sunny smile directed at him ever again. He knows that the way his husband avoids him now, won't speak to him now, is his own fault. He knows he was too harsh, too cruel, at the beginning of their union to ever be the reason that Wei Ying smiles again. He watches his husband smile wistfully at their youngest disciples from a distance, his uncle never letting him anywhere near them, and thinks if only Wei Ying had a child to dote on, to love, that he would be happier. Knowing he has lost his chance for that child to ever come from him, he turns to all of the children he has seen his husband give food to in the streets, all the children he has smiled at, been kind to, and played with until a disciple pulls him away, and thinks, perhaps, he knows how to make Wei Ying happy again. AKA a historical romance fic which features the Lans being terrible, Lan Xichen focused on fixing that, Lan Wanji focused on simply fixing his relationship, and Wei Wuxian focused on being a surrogate parent to as many children as he can find (eventually). Kay's comments: Important disclaimer that this story hasn't been updated in three years, so keep that in mind, if you start reading it. When I just entered the fandom, I was absolutely obsessed with this story and even now, I think of it every now and then and re-read it recently and it really holds up. Definitely angst-heavy, the kind of story that puts Wei Wuxian through an emotional blender. The misunderstandings are heavy in this one, but so well-done. Excerpt:It had been, possibly, the worst 6 months of Wei Wuxian’s life. He felt that he had truly tried his hardest not to break a rule, and it almost seemed at this point as if Lan Qiren and the elders had it out for him, and had invented new rules just to spite him. His husband was the worst of all, always reprimanding him or making him kneel for hours, for what seemed to Wei Wuxian to be small infractions. He could not understand why Lan Wangji would treat him this way. Surely, he thought, husbands are supposed to help their omegas adjust. Surely they should not treat them like this. His husband had never offered him a single kind word. Wei Wuxian almost flinched at the sight of him now. The day after his wedding, he had tried to make friends with him, joking and cajoling, and had been met with glares so harsh you would think that he had murdered a baby right in front of him. He had tried speaking to his husband cordially at dinner, far more formally than he had ever tried speaking with anyone in his life, let alone a man he was supposed to be close to, and all that had happened was Lan Wangji saying that mealtimes were to be passed in silence. When he had tried to speak more, Lan Wangji had taken the food away! Sure, it was bland fare, but he was still starving! When he had protested that, Lan Wangji had stated that further infractions would lead to another punishment in the library on proper decorum. On and on it went that way, with Wei Wuxian trying to make any overture towards kindness or friendship, and Lan Wangji punishing him severely for each attempt. After three months of acting like it did not affect him, and trying again, he had finally succumbed. One could only be forced to kneel so often before they broke, he supposed.

Rebirth of a Wretched Mayfly by marikazz

M, 15k, Wangxian

Summary: He sat upright and clenched his hands, numb from the cold. They felt as real as anything did these days. Wei Wuxian remembered 'yesterday' with relative certainty. They had planned an attack, Lan Wangji never leaving his side, spitfire eyes glaring and turning away in the end. Him, alone, coming down on the Wen's flank like a wraith. The stench of freshly raised corpses and the shrill sound of his own flute bleeding into the rush of blades and arrows piercing the clear air turned rancid. The ground churning into mud, an unknowable amount of fighting and bloodshed passing. Then, clear as day, the memory of an arrow to his back, of his sudden tumble and death. Not too terrible, but he felt there was no use dwelling on it for too long either. --- In the middle of the Sunshot Campaign, Wei Wuxian inexplicably repeats a harrowing winterday. Kay's comments: Incredibly painful Groundhog Day AU where Wei Wuxian lives a day in the middle of the Sunshot Campaign again and again. Either it ends with him dying or with passing out or Lan Wangji dies. It starts grating on his psyche sooner than later and eventually, he stars throwing himself at swords, too tired to continue. The angst in this was sooo good and the ending was so worth it. I really loved how it all wrapped up and how he finally found a way out of this, even though it was the most embarassing route for Wei Wuxian personally. Excerpt: For a moment Lan Wangji merely looked at him with a slightly wrinkled brow. "Wei Ying, why are you still here?" Wei Wuxian rolled his eyes. "I was meditating" Lan Wangji face became a little blanker at that, making Wei Wuxian snort. "We are leaving for the ambush shortly," Lan Wangji said and pursed his lips at Wei Wuxian's general unpreparedness. Wei Wuxian got a phantom sensation of those same lips, slick with blood, sliding against his neck. Fear suddenly clenched around his ribcage, making him recoil violently. "No," he spat. Lan Wangji lifted his hand aimlessly, but Wei Wuxian turned away and blinked rapidly at the ground. He took a bracing breath and choked out, "No, we are not" The frown was certainly noticeable now. "We are in a precarious position, it is unwise to remain here-" Acid curled in his stomach and he clenched his jaw. "We can't go, Lan Zhan"

Reclamation by CordialCoroner (CordialCrow)

M, 6k, Wen Qing

Summary: After her death at the hands of the Jin, Wen Qing's spirit lingers. Kay's comments: As you can tell, I'm currently hungering for Wen Qing deserves a little revenge, as a treat. Wen Qing should have been allowed to go a little apeshit. In this story she gets to do so and I absolutely loved it. After her death, she lingers as a ghost in Lanling and learns of Wen Ning still being alive (and being experimented on) and the upcoming Siege on the Burial Mounds. She tries his best to stop it, but unfortunately, she's just a small little spirit. It's only when the Burial Mounds get involved that she gets the power-up she needs to take revenge. Excerpt: But it is not enough. Wen Qing can see it in their faces as they call for more blood. No one speaks on her brother’s behalf, but Wen Qing does not expect them to. Not even Jiang Wanyin, who’d had Wei Wuxian at his side for years, utters a single word in his defense. Instead, he is one of the ones most adamant about bringing about his downfall. “Yunmeng-Jiang is more than happy to lead the siege against the Burial Mounds,” Jiang Wanyin declares. Wen Qing swarms around him unnoticed, wishing she had hands so that she could wring his neck. Ingrate! Have you forgotten your debts? Of your visit to the Burial Mounds? You know there is no army, only the elderly and a toddler. Wen Qing surges around him, filled with anger yet unable to interact with its source in the slightest. And to think, my brother was willing to lay down his life for you, to give up his core. Jiang Wanyin is undeserving of such a gift. Wen Qing regretted that she allowed herself to be convinced into giving it to him. I should rip that core right out of your chest and make you mundane once more. Wen Qing thinks bitterly. Leave your lower dantian empty and hollow, just like your heart.

Portal by Sether1in3

E, WIP, 39k, Wangxian

Summary: A portal opens before Wei Wuxian, swirling and crackling with energy. It pulls him in before he can even step away. What's waiting for him on the other side, is a world —or maybe many worlds— of adventures. — Or a collection of one-shots to celebrate Wei Ying's birthday in 2022! Kay's comments: Gonna go out and say that this counts as Schrödinger's WIP, but I run the blog and I make the rules, so it counts as a WIP! It's standing at 28/33 chapters, but it's a collection of one-shots and I think there's something in here for everyone. We've got all iterations of Wei Wuxian that we love and adore, from Mothxian to Foxxian to Merxian and I really enjoyed every single one of these stories, they were very creative and there was some delicious angst for me as well. Really great! I'm picking an excerpt from the single father Wei Wuxian chapter, which I really loved. Excerpt: Wei Ying calls him after he's gotten better, he offers to pay for lunch as thanks for Lan Zhan's help. The latter accepts. But he shows up with flowers, and jewels in his hair. Oh. They have an amazing time. They talk about everything and anything and decide to schedule another meeting together. And another after that. And another. Then they're sharing kisses in the car before dropping each other off, texting each other goodnight, and sending sleepy selfies. Oh god, Wei Ying is dating his son's teacher.

❤️Breathing Firestorm by ladyshadowdrake

M, 111k, wangxian

Summary: After years of a mad quest, Wen Ruohan is finally given proof of a powerful creature living among mortals. He is delighted to find that it truly believes itself to be only a boy named “Wei Wuxian.” While Wen Ruohan tries to unlock Wei Wuxian’s secret, the sects unite against him. If he can achieve his goal before they arrive, even the combined might of the cultivation world would not be enough to humble him. Meanwhile, Lan Wangji dreams of Wei Wuxian in the Cold Pond Cave, and works tirelessly to rescue him from Wen Ruohan’s clutches. No one is prepared for what awaits the allied sects in Nightless City at the conclusion of the war, and it very well might mean the end of the world as they know it.
My comments: Oh, oh, I really loved this one! And I’m so frustrated, because I can’t say too much about it because it’s a surprise worth not spoiling. Ugh. But essentially, wen ruohan believes that wwx is a mythical creature, has him kidnapped, creepily courts him for a while, gets pissy, throws him in a dungeon, has wen qing and wen zhouliu ‘work on him’… and poor wwx STILL has no idea what they think he is or what he’s supposed to be doing about it.
Meanwhile, the other sects (and especially lan wangji) are gearing up to rescue him back, but they take a long, political time about it. (Lwj is ready to go do the whole thing single-handedly.) Then, when the trigger gets pulled and wwx busts out, well, that’s only the first half of the story, isn’t it. And the rest of the cultivation world is as greedy as wrh… or simply fearful… of what wwx has become.

Wen Ruohan is a major creep in this story and definitely gave me goosebumps. Things don't get better for him for a long time either, but at least Lan Wangji is there in spirit! Summary: Wei Wuxian surrenders in Nightless City. Jin Guangshan, knowing that he's coreless and weaponless, organizes a night hunt with 1,000 Jin disciples where Wei Wuxian is the prey. He shouldn't have underestimated Wei Wuxian. Kay's comments: This is the most BAMF Wei Wuxian story out there and I absolutely adore it. He surrenders and has to fight 1000 Jin disciples an then he comes out on top and vanishes. In the meantime, the world changes. The non-linear narrative worked really well in this story and I loved the shifts in perspective as you learn more about what happened after Wei Wuxian surrendered and why he surrendered. There's a second part too, about his return. Excerpt: “A-Xian, please…stop. Just stop,” Jiang Yanli begs, spending the last of her breath gasping out a barely coherent sentence to her little brother. “Okay,” Wei Wuxian says, desperate as always to make her happy. “Okay. If that’s what you want.” He raises his flute to his lips, calming the fierce corpses currently rampaging around Nightless City. Jiang Yanli feels the world going blurry, but forces herself to focus for her brother. Wei Wuxian gently picks her up and passes her to Jiang Cheng, who came running over as soon as he heard her. “A-Yuan,” he says to Jiang Cheng urgently. “Please, Jiang Cheng, A-Yuan–he’s just a child.” Then he backs away, hands at his side, and turns to face the assembled cultivators. “Wei Wuxian!” The sharp voice of Sect Leader Nie. “What is this? Are you surrendering?” Wei Wuxian looks back, once, at Jiang Yanli. No, she wants to say, don’t do it. A-Xian, I came to tell you that I don’t blame you. I know it’s not your fault. I know you would never. Don’t surrender to them, A-Xian, there’s something rotten in the heart of Jinlintai and they’re not interested in justice. But she can’t. She’s losing consciousness in her brother’s arms, and she can do nothing but watch as Wei Wuxian looks away with resolve on his face. She’s never hated herself more for being weak.

G, 16k, wangxian, lan qiren & wei wuxian

Summary:  The Lans agree to take in the DafanWen after Wei Wuxian rescues them from Qiongli Path. Their only condition: that Wei Wuxian lets himself be purified of resentful energy. Lan Wangji thinks this is how he will finally get his Wei Ying back, free from demonic influences. Wei Wuxian thinks this is a fancy way of saying “execution.”
My comments:  Good story, the angst is simply delicious.
Story in which wwx and wen qing just go along with the Lans’ apparent desire to execute wwx as payment for harboring the wens. (Of course, the Lans want no such thing, especially lwj, who will be doing the Cleansing Ritual.) The problem is that none of the wounds from before and during being dropped into the Burial Mounds ever actually healed, and wwx is just held together with resentful energy and chutzpah.
He has one week before the ritual, so spends it with Lan Qiren trying to get down everything he can about resentful energy and why you shouldn’t go try to use it. Exposure therapy certainly has a beneficial effect on lqr’s opinion of wwx… too bad he’ll be dead tomorrow.

Kay's comments: 💙 I've always been weak for @angstymdzsthoughts inspired stories and this one is definitely one of my favourites. In which Wei Wuxian surrenderes himself to the Lans in exchange for the Wens' freedom on the condition that the Lans cleanse him, which he thinks is a fancy way of saying they're going to kill him (which they almost do oops). The angst in this story is exquisite and I'm so weak for stories that adress the fact that sometimes things could be easier if only Lan Wangji used his actual words.

E, 64k, wangxian

Summary:  Wei Ying leaves. He follows
My comments:  In case the summary didn’t do it for you, please enjoy these author tags: Noping Out Of Society With Your Boyfriend And Your 50 Wen Refugees: The Novel//Overzealous Use Of Imagery//Alternate Universe - Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies//Well Except Wen Ning But He Was Already Dead So//Fix-It of Sorts __________
Well DAMN, this starts with a bang, the Jins stating that wwx and the wens (vanished from their ken) should be hunted down and brought to justice. This makes lwj… feel some things. (None of them good.)
Story is from lwj’s POV – and his voice is FANTASTIC, and author’s style is dreamy and vivid, which brings his perspective to life. He follows wwx and the Wens, and eventually finds them, hidden behind talismans and barriers in a far corner of the wide, wild world. He joins them, but acceptance of him is slow (except for A-Yuan), and wwx is not doing well at all, draining himself until there’s nothing left. But slowly their lives congeal, homes are wrestled from the ruin of the abandoned town, crops are planted, wwx and lwj learn to understand each other better (and lwj is THOROUGHLY commited, although quietly sad that he’ll never see his brother again).
Culminates in an endeavor which shreds lwj’s back (like the 33 lashes) and very nearly kills him and forces this tiny Wen Clan to make a choice.
Excerpt:  “Bright-gege, where’s Xian-gege ?”
“He is— occupied.” The explanation is insufficient, but he does not know what else to say. Perhaps a-Yuan is familiar with Wei Ying’s clouded moods, because the boy frowns in something resembling recognition.
“Is he still sad?”
“I believe so.”
He considers this. “When a-Yuan is sad, Xian-gege makes it better.”
Wangji has no idea how to explain the wrenching, sucking sorrow of Wei Ying’s situation, of the estrangement of his family, how he has given up everything he has known to sequester himself in the furthest corner of the world in the hopes of keeping a-Yuan and all the rest safe. It is something even he cannot conceive in its entirety, everything Wei Ying has willingly let go in the name of doing what is right. He does not have the words to explain it to the boy.
“Sometimes,” he says, stilted, “the only thing one can do is be sad.”
Another excerpt *** The writing is often just pure poetry: ***:
“You should rest,” he murmurs, thumb sweeping against the curve of his knee, cloth bunching and unbunching with each stroke. Wei Ying watches the motion and meets his gaze. This is how he looks kissed: mouth bruise-dark, color high on his cheeks, neat-combed hair mussed where Wangji has threaded fingers through it. Wangji memorizes it, folds it thrice and tucks it in his chest, buried among the roots of the sapling seeded within.

Love it when they decide to just leave the cultivation world alltogether and turn their backs. Lan Wangji eventually follows them as well and it's just absolutely perfect. Summary:  The young man leaned forward, elbow on a propped up knee. “You are all respectable cultivators,” he said in a lilting tone even as the veritable army below pointed their swords at him. “Was this really the best way you could think of to get my attention?”
With the threat of the Wen sect looming, the other major sects decide to summon the aid of a man they’d killed centuries ago: the Yiling Patriarch, Wei Wuxian.
My comments:  Oooh, this is intense. Like, things are presented in the summary as kind of a joke only they’re really, really NOT.
Wwx comes into a room full of cultivators, all of whom thought making mo xuanyu sacrifice himself for the greater good was a viable option. They don’t start out on the right foot at all. (On the other hand, the underlying current is that wwx is laughing at all of them. Primarily for being such short-sighted idiots. But also, through his antics, he makes them see what a gruesome and unethical path they’re carving through this war.)
Story is in three parts. The first just deals with a passive view of wwx, a frightening and powerful demonic cultivator of old, called up to ask for something they… don’t quite realize they were asking for.
Second part is more focused on lwj, and how he sees what is happening. It’s much more human, and then leaves you hanging with a very big What If.
Third part… it’d be Spoilers if I told you ;)

Kay's comments: An incredibly fascinating AU in which the sects summon the Yilian Patriach to deal with the Wens. However, things don't go according to plan, because Wei Wuxian isn't someone who will just turn up and do their bidding. Wei Wuxian has also lived centuries ago and so is a stranger to the cultivators here, but… Well, not all is what it seems. I really loved how creative this story was the mood was so perfect. It's the middle of the war against the Wens, it's gritty, it's demonic cultivation unleashed and it's the hypocrazy of the sects. Highly recommend!

T, WIP, 11k, Wangxian

Summary: The one with the time travel. Kay's comments: At this point you all probably already know that I am very weak for everything apathyinreverie writes, but if not, let me once again shout from the roof my adoration for apathyinreverie's stories! In this one, we have Wei Wuxian accidentally travelling back in time to just before the guest lectures and he feels as though he is living a dream and determined to work hard to create a better future for them all. At the same time, he is also pining deliciously for Lan Zhan. This story stands at 3/4 chapters and hasn't been updated in a while, but it really shouldn't deter you, because it's such a treat and it feels like a satisfying ending even if you stop reading after chapter three. Excerpt: Wei Ying is staring at where Jiang Yanli just disappeared down the hall on her way to the kitchens. It hadn’t taken her at all long to notice that something might be wrong with him, the desperation in his hold on her. But when he choked out a few words about her death, about being sorry, about missing her, her concern had only grown. Because she apparently doesn’t remember dying at all and is now convinced Wei Ying must have had some truly horrific nightmare. So, she is making him soup. As a treat. And he better not follow her to the kitchen and disrupt her work. Just like she used when they were still children. Wei Ying stares after her, the warmth of her hug still imprinted into his clothes and his mind, hands curling at his sides now that she has disappeared.

❤️no new age by everythingispoetry

M, 146k, wangxian, 4 works, series complete

Summary:  What if the past was not something you truly recover from?
My comments:  This is a punch right in the feels: visceral pain and anguish from everyone involved. First story is lwj pov and simply tragic and painful and gut-wrenching. (You will cry.) It’s many, many years until he can even walk, and he’s so diminished, it’s an effort just to exist, and that’s the best he can do. A-Yuan holds his family together, even unwittingly. As lxc muses in the third story, without A-Yuan, there would be no life, for lwj would have killed himself as soon as he was able, and lxc would easily have followed him soon after.
The second story is A-Yuan’s, and it’s gorgeous, to see how he looks at the adults around him, the conclusions he comes to, and the lifelong character traits growing up living with a severely crippled father gives him. He’s a special person, driven and fiery and, as he gets older, powerful.
The fourth story ISN’T FINISHED, omg, I hadn’t realized when I started reading, and now I’m brutally gripped by this author and will HAVE TO WAIT, it’s gonna kill me. The story is so good, however, that I’ll just start from the beginning and read it all again because who doesn’t love being dragged across an emotional shredder? This is a favorite.
ETA: I DID just start over at the beginning, and damned if my eyes aren’t swollen for crying for two days. But it ends in a very good place! (Nothing magical, just two people working with what they’ve got and slowly making it better.) The fourth story starts with wwx’s arrival – Sizhui finds him, recognizes his song, and literally drags him back to his father because he’s long since worked out who lwj is in love with. It… is slow going, with misunderstandings and sooo many mental health issues. Wwx is a traumatized mess, because he was starving and losing everything and going insane only weeks earlier, and now he’s in a weak and severely undernourished body (cue eating disorder behavior) that ISN’T HIS, so there’s mild body horror and disorientation. Plus his obliviousness doesn’t do anyone any favors. (Jingyi eventually shouts at him and fixes that.)
Lan Wangji has had 13 years to acclimate to HIS foreign and unwieldy body, and poor wwx has only had weeks or months, so there’s a gap that needs to be accomodated, and lwj does a beautiful job with that. By halfway through, they are doing their best to learn to communicate truthfully, and start a journey towards healing, and it’s lovely.
*[I waffled over whether to call it a ‘happy’ ending or a ‘positive’ ending.  The fic deals with serious and permanent injuries.  Things get much better, but there is no miraculous cure.  So you might need to know that going in.]

canon divergence, permanent injury, disability, 13 years, 33 lashes, discipline whip, angst, hurt/comfort, character study, hurt lan wangji, pain, functional mutism, brotherly feels, family feels, parent-child relationship, growing up, mental health issues, grief/mourning, kid fic, sickfic, feels, tearjerker, emotional hurt/comfort, suicidal thoughts, powerful lan sizhui, healer lan sizhui, weak lan wangji, (obviously), badass lan sizhui, abusive lan sect, Inquiry, malnutrition, eating disorders (wwx), lan xichen is a mess, lan sizhui is holding everyone together, ptsd, misunderstandings, miscommunication, oblivious wei wuxian, slow recovery, healing, favorite, golden core reveal, non-sexual relationship, positive ending, happy ending

Kay's comments: 💙 Oh boy. This series. It came out a few months after I joined the fandom and I think it actually left a lasting impression and influence on me as a person and especially as a fanfic author and I just really loved the way it explored chronic illness, disability, trauma and how all of it affects and diverges the original storyline. The main premise is basically that Lan Wangji never really recovers from the whipping and instead has to learn how to live in his forever-changed body and with its new limitations, how Sizhui grows up in der Cloud Recesses with Lan Wangji being bedridden for a long time and how it affects, well, everything. There's also another change too in that Wei Wuxian has a harder time adapting to Mo Xuanyu's body and to his rebirth. I just. Really adore this series and how creative and heart-wrenching it was. It hit very close to home many times and felt very cathartic.

Summary;  To get his hands on the Yin Tiger Seal, Jin Guangshan decides to make Wei Wuxian part of the Lanling Jin sect through marriage to his son and heir.
Exactly nobody is happy about this.
Excerpt:  It had been a fear of his power, fear of his demonic cultivation, fear of his Yin Tiger Seal that had prompted this ridiculous gambit, but in marrying Wei Wuxian to Jin Zixuan, Jin Guangshan had handed him something just as effective, if not more so— political power. He may not have the seal anymore, but it had never been anything more than a fickle thing to use in the most extreme of situations. The demonic cultivation, the raw power and ingenuity that came with it— that was all Wei Wuxian. It couldn’t be taught, or removed, or destroyed. It was his mind, his will power, his sheer determination that made him so dangerous, and Jin Guangshan hadn’t understood that. He had coveted the seal as an artifact of power, he had coveted Wei Wuxian as a conduit of power, but he had not understood that that was not all Wei Wuxian was.
By making Wei Wuxian the spouse of the heir to the most powerful and influential Great Sect, Jin Guangshan had practically handed Wei Wuxian the keys to his kingdom. It would only be his own fault if he found himself replaced on the throne someday soon.

canon divergence, arranged marriage, political marriage, angst, pining, sect politics, Jin Zixuan & Wei Wuxian, POV Multiple, qiongqi path, wen labor camp, intrigue and manipulation, Friendship, Fix It, Slow Burn Wangxian, first kiss, golden core reveal, golden core repair, there is never anything sexual between jzx and wwx, enemies to reluctant husbands to begrudging best friends, lan wangji understands, so does jiang yanli, happy ending, @glitteringmoonlight

Kay's comments: 💙 The yearning and pining is strong in this story! Glitteringmoonlight tagged it with "Enemies to Reluctant Husbands to Begrudging Best Friends" and that's practically the best summary for Wei Wuxian's and Jin Zixuan's relationship in this story, who get forced to marry by Jin Guangshan. Once they are married, Wei Wuxian is pining for Lan Wangji and Jin Zixuan is pining for Jiang Yanli and the both of them are working hard to take down Jin Guangshan from the inside. Despite the premise, there is only minmal angst and it's more about the pining and the reluctant allies aspect of it all and I really enjoyed it! And Wei Wuxian's portrayal in this fic is perfect too and acknoledges his strengths and his self-awareness beautifully and of course, there is a wonderful happy end to it all and the last two chapters are entirely dedicated to it, which I really enjoyed too!

Summary: Lan Wangji had come to Carp Tower to seal an alliance with the Yiling Patriarch, in order to prevent a war the Lan Sect couldn’t win. But the deal was brokered by the Jin sect for reasons of their own, and instead Lan Wangji found himself all but coerced into an unexpected marriage.
My comments: I just want to live in this series. I’ll bring my comfy chair and my cats and favorite bits of art and I’ll never leave. This world is engrossing and I love it to pieces. The characterizations are perfect, and entertaining, the set up is great, just… the whole story is on fire in the best way.
In this AU, wwx has been in the Burial Mounds for most of his life (well, he’s on his third life now, but…) and alone for much of it. But now he’s got the Dafan Wens to protect and be his family. But the Jin want something from him, and he’s been ‘encouraged’ to visit Carp Tower through some strategic hostage-taking and information that Cloud Recesses had plans to attack them. Meanwhile, the Lan have been told that Cloud Recesses is under imminent attack by the Yiling Patriarch unless they cement an impromptu alliance. So with no time to breathe or ask questions, boom, wangxian are married, willy nilly.
Of course, nothing is as it seems, and these two smart boys figure it out quickly. But that doesn’t mean that lwj isn’t committed to his new husband and his family, a stubborn attachment that only grows stronger as he learns wwx’s tragic past and witnesses his bright humor, fierce love for his family, and very sharp mind. (The fact that he’s young and beautiful is purely incidental.)
Excerpt 1: …they had no choice. The wars of the previous generation and the volcanic eruption in Qishan had left the countryside devastated, cities and sects in ruins, all across the continent. The Lan had been lucky to survive at all, and now they were lucky the powerful Jin had chosen to intercede in order to stop the attack on Cloud Recesses by the Burial Mounds. Lan Wangji said, “I agreed to this, Brother.” He didn’t add, “It will be fine,” because it wouldn’t. It would be what it was.
Excerpt 2: Fortunately, Wei Wuxian had an affinity for Yin Iron that came from spending a lot of time dead with it.
N.B. [If you loved this story, you should probably go read… everything… by Moominmammashandbag, because I feel like the tone, characterizations, and blend of both humor and actually fraught situations is similar.]

post magical-apocolypse, canon diverted via volcano, arranged marriage, surprise marriage, political marriage, angst, case fic, faint-y wei wuxian, doting lan wangji, intrigue, sick wei wuxian, sort of, hurt wei wuxian, caretaking, found family, wen remnants, burial mounds, supportive lan xichen, supportive lan qiren, hurt/comfort, getting together, getting to know each other, light angst, protective wens, slow burn, first kiss, powerful wei wuxian, powerful lan wangji, BAMF lan wangji, yiling patriarch wei wuxian, happy ending, favorite

Kay's comments: 💙 I adore this series! It features the convenient volcano under Nightless City (CQL-Canon), which is a plot devise I wish more people utilized to blow up their problems. It's also got some major canon divergence with non-Yunmeng Wei Wuxian, who grew up in the Burial Mounds as part of Xue Chonghai's Sect, until that guy went crazy due to Yin Iron fuckery and Wei Wuxian got tossed into the blood pool where he maybe died/kinda became immortal/took a very long nap and now woke up in time to safe the Dafan Wens and also found himself in an arranged marriage with Lan Wangji orchestrated by the Jins, who assumed that they were killing two birds with one stone, because obviously the Lans and the Yiling Laozu would wipe each other out rather than make this forced arranged marriage work, but of course, Wangxian fall in love hard and fast and unite forces against the Jins. The world-building in this series is absolutely amazing and I really enjoyed all the aspects of the canon-divergence with Wei Wuxian coming from an earlier time and all of how the Xue Sect operated and how of course the volcano (and its eruption) changed everything. Much, much love to this series!

Summary:  Wei Wuxian has been haunting his childhood home for three years. He’s perfected the fine art of scaring away all the tenants, and has grown used to living with the dying flowers in the garden as his only company.
When Lan Wangji buys the house, Wei Wuxian fully intends to drive him off too. Except Lan Wangji is beautiful, and interesting, and captivating company - even if he supposedly doesn’t know Wei Wuxian exists.
My comments:  In which wwx is haunting his old house, and particularly loves to tease the new guy.  But… there’s something odd about him and his brother, because wwx can swear they’ve made eye contact once or twice.  Wwx reveals himself (metaphorically) over time, learning to like and trust his new, oblivious roommate.  No potential for angst and misunderstandings here, is there?!

ghost wei wuxian, ghost character, professor lan wangji, modern au, the Lans can see ghosts but ignore them, embarrassment, misunderstandings, angst, humor, slow burn, sweet, fluff, domestic, xichen ships it, happy ending, @glenflower

Kay's comments: I swear, every time I read this story, it managed to tickle some tears out of me. It's just so heart-breaking and so good and there's a happy end to it all! Modern AU in which ghost Wei Wuxian has been haunting his childhood home until Lan Wangji moves in. Wei Wuxian, of course, is immediately taken with him and starts clinging to him until one day, it turns out Lan Wangji has been able to see him this whole time and ignored him...

I promise this story has the best happy ending ever, also features some mentioned Xuanli and Chengqing, shovel talking and meddling brother Lan Xichen and adorable rabbits.
