Shining On The Inside, Maybe

if you are in or around los angeles and the fires and evacuation alerts have not yet reached you, take pictures of where you live. as many as you can. inside and outside if possible. try to take CLEAR pictures of serial numbers, product names, appliances, expensive stuff especially. these pictures will help you get major things replaced exactly instead of just "a TV".

stay safe. remember to bring critical paperwork when evacuating.

this unique ‘blonde’ canada goose shows off one of a kind coloration due to leucism, a genetic mutation that results in a partial lack of melanin. the condition is frequently confused with albinism, but albino animals have a full lack of melanin; albino birds will most likely display all-white feathers, pink skin, and red or pink eyes.

I say this with love, but our pal here is a little stumpy for a canada goose, is it possible they're a cackling goose instead?

(still very beautiful, very powerful, of course)

Macaulay Library site bc the link is broken, it is a fantastic place for animal photos! I can't find the source for this friend in particular (yet) but by the other references, imo they do look more cackling

mutual aid los angeles (MALA) has put together a spreadsheet with valuable resources for people affected by the ongoing los angeles wildfires and wind storm. the sheet is constantly being updated with resources such as shelter info, animal boarding info, addresses for distribution centers, volunteer opportunities and so much more.

Tumblr: Isn't it funny how Japanese light novels have such improbably long titles? Isn't it weird?

English literature for most of the 17th–19th Centuries:

Today’s intrusive thoughts in the tune of YMCA:

YOUNG MAN, pick up that seagull and run I said, YOUNG MAN, stealing birds must be fun I said, YOUNG MAN, it’s just sitting right there

Seize the bird and start running YOUNG MAN, don’t just stand there and stare I said, YOUNG MAN, go give that bird a scare

I know you’re thinking of SEI-ZING THE BIRD Yeah you’re thinking of SEI-ZING THAT BIRD

Your brain will not chill, but imagine the thrill

Of firm ly gras ping that sea gull

Teir Garanoù (2023)

Water birds were seen as magical in many Celtic folklores, as they were living in the three worlds (water, sky, and land), and often represented in groups of three. The Breton name of the crane, garan, also means "etching, carving, engraving", and garaniñ or garanañ means "to carve, to engrave". In Breton, the expression chom garanet (literally "to keep engraved") means to remember something vividly; and so, cranes were associated with memory and knowledge. This association can also be seen in Irish mythology, where some stories say that Manannán mac Lir's crane bag contained, on top of his many other treasures, the letters of the first Ogham, the Irish alphabet that was originally written carved on stones

ID from alt: A digital painting of three common Eurasian cranes, standing in a marsh, a small lake bordered with trees behind them. They are trumpeting, their heads pointed towards the sky. Behind them is drawn a symbol mixing a triskelion and spirals, both common patterns in ancient brittonic art. (End)
