i gotta dig up the post again but someone on, i think, Reddit? determined that it's very likely the crash that killed Nagito's parents but not him or w/e resulted in 9/11 possibly not happening in the Danganronpa universe

we don’t talk often enough about how komaeda gave himself stigmata, impaled himself on a spear, and crucified himself to a back track of gregorian chants after filming a video essentially voicing word for word his desire to be considered a martyr. plus! he did it to atone for the sins of his classmates (himself included). his suicide was like. really catholic.
