It's really interesting to me that trans-progressive people will say things like "gender isn't real" and "anyone can be anything", but they look at a cis woman who doesn't conform to beauty standards and assume she must be some sort of trans. She doesn't remove her body hair or wears clothing she finds comfortable, and for some reason, this challenges people.
I've had a discussion with my friend about this because I see this so much. I would rather claw off my skin than have someone call me "they" because they assume I'm something I'm not. There is quite literally nothing about me that would indicate that I identify as anything but a woman, I just happen to refuse to remove body hair or wear makeup and wear what I find most comfortable. It's kind of insane to me that for a group of people who claim to be progressive, an adult woman cannot look like an adult woman (not a male curated look to appeal to pedophilic beauty standards).
What's even worse is having people try to convince me that I'm anything but a woman. There's always a misogynistic reason for their way of thinking, too, but they think they're doing something by trying to convince me that my sex isn't good enough. Get a life.

I believe the laureate receives a monetary award as well. As far as I know this case has already been widely publicised, I first came to know about it through my local news. I have seen a lot of men and (sadly) women criticising her pain but as she perfectly put it into words, shame must change sides. She has nothing to hide and much to be recognised and applauded for.
She sacrificed her privacy to tell the whole world and her own community about the dozens and dozens of necrophilic rapists lurking in our neighborhoods. She did this even if it meant receiving more abuse. She deserves something.

with this money all her money problems would be gone off her mind. any money problems of her kids as well probably. she can move out into a house her abuser never set foot into and never will. she could afford top tier therapeutic support. or if she wants to she could put some of the money towards lobbyism in favor of victims of sexual violence, a shelter, awareness raising programs etc. (studies show victims who get involved with some form of activism/action and actively work through their trauma with this effort recover way better)

They had so much video evidence of both her husband and the other rapists he invited into their home that it could have easily been an open and shut case without her participation in it at all

Women that might not have even imagined such a thing was possible will be better on guard now and able to name a real threat to their sexual health and personal safety. And they’ll have a face and name to put to their concerns if they think something similar may be happening to them.
She’s helped protect and inform women of a real danger, and she helped put away dozens of predators who knew better and chose to hurt her anyways
Men online will mock and further sexualize her story, maybe even harass her and her daughters now that their names and faces are known. But other women will go on from this with a new perspective about how prevalent this type of male violence and depravity can be in even small and rural communities.
After being starved and imprisoned in blockade for months, 120,000 indigenous Armenians in Artsakh just faced mass deportation and ethnic cleansing at the hands of Azerbaijan, aided by their brother country Turkey and supplied military aid by a third genocidal country, Israel. Noting that in case my American friends think this is a small regional conflict-- guess who funds Israel?
Artsakh will be dissolved on January 1st, 2024 and for the first time in 3,000 years, it will be void of Armenians. Hard to put the pain into words. Turkey and Azerbaijan will not stop here, as pan-turkic doctrine claims all of Armenia as theirs. Armenian existence threatens the fabric of Azeri (and Turkish) national identity so it is no surprise they want to annihlate us again.
With the violent occupation of Artsakh, our ancient holy sites will be desecrated and our history rewritten while major news outlets will find pretty words for genocide like "conflict" or "war". No one will punish Azerbaijan's war crimes, no one will remember white phosphorous rain on our homes. And the perpetrators will continue to live a lie.
I think denial is a fragile basis for any relationship, to a person or to a land. What is built on a foundation of denial will break under enough tension, after enough time. I believe we'll be back someday.
And we are our mountains. I think they will always remember us.

I am Noor, a mother of three children: Yamen (5 years old), Tala (11 years old), and Yara (9 years old). I once lived a simple life in Gaza, filled with love and hope, but the war took everything from us.
My husband has been missing since the start of the war, and I have no idea where he is or what happened to him. Our home, our safe haven, was completely destroyed in a bombing. I had no choice but to flee with my children, moving from one place to another, with nowhere to call home.
But the suffering didn’t stop there. I was severely injured in an airstrike, leaving me unable to move my right hand entirely. I’ve undergone two surgeries so far, but my hand remains lifeless. My leg was also severely injured and requires ongoing treatment. I am unable to do even the simplest things for my children, who look at me with eyes full of fear and hope.
I traveled to Egypt, clinging to the hope of receiving the medical care I so desperately need. However, the cost of treatment is overwhelming. The surgeries, medications, and physical therapy are all essential, but I simply cannot afford them.
My children need me, and I need your help. I don’t want to give in to pain or despair, but I cannot do this alone. Every donation you make is a lifeline for my children to feel safe again and a ray of hope for me to regain my strength and stand by their side.
