Does Wormitha ever predict storms like a leech barometer? I know it isn't a very reliable method for checking the weather but I learned about it recently and I'm REALLY curious ^^

Avatar

Sometimes. I have seen her get more active and start climbing around when a big storm hits, but it seems to depend on her mood because I’ve also seen her sleep through storms and not even notice. I think the more leeches you have, the more likely it is that at least one will get excited and start climbing during a storm, because back when I had a bigger Squad I definitely noticed it more often.

Lyme flare-ups?

Ye I had Lyme disease a few years ago and a flare-up is basically just a resurgence of symptoms months or years after it’s been treated. It’s usually caused by environmental factors (such as weather)

I also have permanent joint damage in my right knee from it (which is why I use a cane sometimes) and that always gets worse whenever it’s cold or rainy, but usually it’s just the joint pain and not the whole experience of overall body pain, weakness and fatigue which is what I’m getting this winter (but no fever or other signs of actually being sick)

have you heard of the game Dredge? i feel like you'd really enjoy it, especially all of the many aberrated sea creatures in it

these 3 here belong to the Blue Mackerel, Cod, and Sting Ray species

Avatar

I have heard of it and it is one of very few video games that sound intriguing to me

I need you to know that I saw this art piece at an exhibition the other day that was an angel made from fossilised human bone casts, wings out of handspun linen, jaws out of horse jaw bone casts, and a plague doctor mask for a face and it looked really fucking neat 👍 if I see it again I'll get a picture!

That sounds like the sickest fucking thing ever and I will always be waiting for that picture

All the Little Guys you post about give me serotonin :3

Also super cool that you have a pet leech! What does it feel like? I would imagine maybe like an earthworm would feel?

Avatar

It’s not quite like an earthworm, more like. A slimy wet slinky. Squishier than an earthworm but also considerably more muscular. They change texture as they move so they can go from bumpy to smooth in a second and it’s really cool to handle them, I highly recommend holding a leech if you ever have the opportunity

the first several moon snail mtuesdays I saw, I somehow interpreted your thumb thumbnail in the second picture as part of the moon snail, so for at least a month I thought moon snails had a small sharp appendage like a beak. for poking, or self defense

Fun fact, they may not have a poking appendage but they do have a proboscis that’s full of thousands of teeth and secretes acid to dissolve and then liquefy their prey!

Question from a different follower about the aquarium jobs since it intrigued me that it was at very different locations and I wanted to know how it was. I've been looking at so many temp jobs and internships and stuff but located far away and I'm nervous about leaving where I am but know I'd have to. Sorry for rambles and if you don't want to answer. >.<

Tbh I felt the same way about moving from Pennsylvania to Maine but I ended up loving it in Maine so much I stayed. It can be scary to leave your home but if you try it, you might find a new home

Dude, how did you get a job at a clownfish hatchery, like what requirements did you fulfill, because working in aquaculture is like a pipe dream of mine and I need to know how you did it

Avatar

You need a degree in some field of biology, and then you just have to be willing to take temporary jobs for a while as you build the skillset you need to work in large aquarium systems. Personally I did an internship for 3 months at the Pittsburgh aquarium, then had a 6-month job at the Maine State Aquarium, and then another 6-month job at the Maine Oceanarium (which I plan to go back to part-time in the summer).

Do you still work at the clownfish hatchery (You mentioned it in a post) And if so, Do you work with the adult clownfish, and if so (Stay with me here), have they ever attacked you?

Yes, I still work at the hatchery and my main job at the moment is taking care of the adult clownfish (the brood stock). Yes they have absolutely attacked me. They do not appreciate it when I take their eggs (even though if I leave them in there, they’ll just eat the babies when they hatch). Although biting is most common, some of the big maroons will jump out of the water and slap my hand with their tail which is lowkey kind of terrifying.

We also have a couple who will try to attack you even if they don’t have eggs, like they’ll just go after you the moment you put your hand in the water. They have signs on their tank that say “I’m Mean”.

Not even Tetris? Because holy shit sorry you're gonna wanna give that one a cool 15 minutes

I don’t know that I’ve played the original Tetris but I’ve probably played one of the knockoff puzzle games. I guess I have played some (like, my sister had a Wii when we were kids and I played that sometimes) but I’ve never really been that interested in any of them
