So honestly, I don't know how to handle my book promotion anymore. Long story short, I waited my entire life to get published. My dream came true in September! I had about a month and a half of joy and hope, and then overnight, my country went from being a democracy to being a dictatorship, with the ruling party controlling every branch of government, and already setting up concentration camps and gearing up to dismantle the constitution.

I talked to my publisher about how to move forward in this horrifying new world, and they reminded me that my book is actually about a small group of oppressed modern vampires fighting for socialized healthcare, and finally overthrowing a long-standing dictatorship.

And also, that art and personal accomplishments still matter.

I really so badly want my dark, weird, and sometimes funny little book to be successful. But I also want it to be meaningful in this awful, hateful time.

I would like to donate some of my royalties to the ACLU and Planned Parenthood.

This is the only thing that has given me even a little bit of hope in the last few days. Please share it widely. The one thing in here that made me feel hopeful is the prospect of nationwide strikes if shitler tries to change the constitution in order to stay past 2 terms or to install someone else (or if vance does, if he croaks it soon enough.)

Nationwide strikes would cripple the US economy pretty quickly. We would all have to face some personal loss, but we would all have to do it. No working, no producing, buying or selling.

Of course, this doesn't work everywhere. It doesn't work in Russia or China against their dictators. But, deep down, I feel like maybe this is where americans ARE different. And this just might be where our baked-in american urge to rebel could come in handy.

It's still early, we are all still grieving, disgusted, and disheartened. I haven't stopped crying tbh, trying to come up with ways to be a mother to my child living under an authoritarian regime.

But this article makes sense, and gives us some direction of what we have to do. Nationwide strikes would grind everything to a halt, and there would be absolutely no way for his dumbfuck supporters to pick up the slack. Seriously, are they scientists, engineers, teachers, etc? Do they have the necessary skills to do what you can do? They do not. Even a few million people could grind the economy to a halt within a week.

This is the way we do it.

Let's see how this shakes out after Jan 20th, but in the meantime, share this widely.
