Another small Hyacinthus & Apollo quilt update just because I’ve been working non stop to get these flowers done before I have to go back to my dorm😭
So I am currently knitting the Magical Flying Husband a tube scarf. I like tube scarves, they are thick and warm and soft and flexible. And this one's coming out fairly prettily, too! But I have never made one before, and I am thinking, well, I made this one pretty wide--a solid eight inches across, because I want him to be able to wrap it across his head if necessary and those four-inch-wide trendy tube scarves can't even cover your ears right. So I think, I will Ask the Internet what their opinion is on the perfect length for a tube scarf, and I will make any necessary adjustments from there in light of the width.
And the first result is a useful forum post, and the second result is a useful-ish Reddit post, and the third response is a little spreadsheet, and the fourth response...
the fourth response is this
I would argue that this is not a scarf
Also I am concerned by the possibility that the smiling human head is there to entice actual mammals closer to the Tube
My brother told me that the sweater I made him last spring is the warmest thing he owns, bar none, about which I'm extremely happy and relieved. He also said that sometimes he puts it on when he's bummed out because it feels like I'm giving him a hug, and it cheers him up.
😭 I just. That's the sweetest fucking thing.
Painted a tiny Grackle!
Top knitting tip: those giant Lindor gifts are perfect for yarn bowls once you've eaten all the chocolate. Or not, if you're in the US and they're full of lead and cadmium. But in the shadow of the EU economic zone my LindORB was good.
This little fellow is Snoopy, my plushie since I was a little girl of 6. So he's more than 40 years my beloved friend. He's seen good and bad days with me, listened to everything without complaining. He has a tail like the one I made him. But with the years and tears I wiped off, it was only a few tender strands left to attach it and I fear it will fall off someday.
So I took yarn and crocheted some trousers, completely with a cord as a tail. Now he's safe again to be my sleeping-buddy for next years.
He is darling, and I love him from trunk to trousers to tail
I would not have space for it, and I will not start another crafts project, but it would be really funny to make an animal head sculpture that's shaped like a wall-mounted hunting trophy. Like one that's somehow so realistic from a distance that a visitor would think "hold on what animal is that" but once they get closer they discover that oh, it's made out of old t-shirt scraps and wire hangers.
I'm appalled. they crushed that fucking baby appalled im now realizing this is more gorey than I anticipated. tw
hey i made a baby outta that
This is one if the funniest fucking things I've ever seen
Give me the wisdom to frog projects I know I’m not going to finish, the strength to frog projects I know I’m not going to finish, and the power to frog projects I know I’m not going to finish.
One thing they don’t tell you about sewing is that it is actually ironing
I know I never post my own stuff but this project took me like three months and I'm so proud of it!!
edit: pattern was found on ravelry!
Hanging this over my bed
tie simple chinese knots to keys and pendants
There were a couple of years when I was completely obsessed with ice dyed fabrics and I still mix them in here and there. I love this quilt, it’s definitely a keeper.
Someone living in Sweden during the Iron Age wore this cloak. Unfortunately, they wore it while they were murdered: forensic analysis found the holes in the cloak match how stabs would have penetrated the folds of the cloak when it was being worn.
Dating to 360 to 100 BCE, is also the oldest known example of a houndstooth pattern!
Nothing I will ever write will ever be as good as “unfortunately, they wore it while they were murdered”
It would be kind of fun to design a cloak pattern that deliberately includes bind off and stitch addition instructions in order to be able to create fake stab holes in something
Oh no, help, I do not have the time and bandwidth right now to try to design a murder cloak
Now that I have to pause the crochet shawl, I'm allowed to start a new project!
I'll make this sweater
But the body will be in the colored color gradient, and the rubbing parts will be in the grey-black gradient. I also want to add a collar
Still totally in love with this color
I only hope I understand the pattern correctly...
So. Much. Progress!!!
There are 6 increase parts in total I just finished the first 3!
I'm absolutely petrified of not having enough yarn though... It SHOULD be enough, but what if not???
Sewn it together for getting an idea of the fit. (Not finished sewing, just very loosely)
And also weighted the yarn. And I actually should have enough for the whole part!!
Neckhole achieved!
Know what spiders need?
More beads
It's hard to see with all the pins, but there are little clear glass beads with silver foil on all the arms of the spider
The whole piece so far. I started last night, made a big mistake and took half of it out today
Made two more mistakes and had to undo to fix. If it weren't for all the mistakes I'd be finished already.
Totally worth the effort to fix, it's so pretty.
Pattern is Hope ornament by Jenny Brandis on Etsy.
Finished! Not perfect, but I'm happy with it, especially since I've only ever done 2 beads.
that looks so cool!! How do you even get the beads on, out of curiosity?
I use a tiny crochet hook to put the bead on one thread of a pair and pull a loop through (so one side of the bead is a loop, the other side is the bobbin at the bottom and the work at the top), then drop the second bobbin of the pair through the loop.
If you don't have a small enough crochet hook, waxed floss or a fine wire can also work- wrap it around the thread and fold it so both ends are together. Put both ends through the bead and push it until it transfers to the thread, keep pushing until you have a big enough loop to slide the other bobbin through
Then you just move the bead into place. If the loop gets twisted before the second bobbin goes through it can be harder to slide up, so try to pay attention.
