Sorry, I know you made the post hours ago, but my brain can’t let it go.
Instagram used to show me all the time content I was not interested in and I realised that it increased the more time I spent there/the more amount of times a day I opened the app. Over the past year, I’ve only been checking it twice a day (one in the morning and one in the evening) and I also deactivated the recommended posts, I fear we can’t do anything about the ads but even those have decreased for me. Now, my feed is almost exclusively made up by the accounts I do follow and my explore page has gone back to the kind of content I used to interact with, before the algorithm tried to push on me whatever reel had gone viral that week.
This definitely defeats the purpose of using it to kill time when I’m bored (highly tempting since i dislike my job) but it makes it easier to turn it to a virtual space that allows me centralise the content I’m interested in. That was the whole point of creating the account in the first place and also seems to be what you want to get from it right, so I’m sharing just in case you find it useful (if you want to quit it altogether, then good for you!!!)
