cold air. barley broth. the complex, intense woody aroma of smoked halibut, fatty and warm and acorn-like. mulled wine and sea-salt fog. citronella shower gel. soft dog fur. the heady mix of blended teas and coffees, of chocolates sweating out their sweet liqueur fillings, and of dried cherries and sugary almond paste. burnt semolina flour. goat cheese; goats. yves saint laurent libre. flint stones that have been sparked together. oversteeped peppermint tea. breath trapped in a scarf. coffee-scented fountain pen ink. sulfuric smoke from backyard sparklers. faint artificial vanilla from a probiotic sachet. iron-sharp blood. the smell of wool lingering on the skin, released with steam. prada infusion d'amande filtered through a mask.
